I have been listening to Elvis my whole life - I'm 63. So many albums are compilations - Elvis in Vegas - Elvis with Philharmonic - Presley's Collection. The collections are all very good.But this is as it was recorded in (1960 ?) and it is a great set of songs. Granted there are two Bonus songs. But every original song is a winner. I love to listen on my record player and turn it up! I have all the 'devices' but you need to carry them around each room with you. A Real Vinyl record on a record player is a joy lost to the newer generation. Even I forgot how great it is.

    Having had both these treasured LPs for years it was great to get them together on cd in this collection.
    The sound is greatly improved and one hears a lot that is missing on the records.

    Elvis is Back is the main disc...his version of FEVER has alway been outstanding more like Little Willie Johns than Peggy Lee's. My favorite is The Girl of My Best Friend which was a big singles hit for Elvis soundalike Ral Donner. It is to Elvis' generosity that he did not release this as a single. He did the same thing with Suspicion with another soundalke Terry Stafford. Such a Night was a big international hit, (I heard it on the radio in St Kitts)also not released in the US as a single.

    Something for Everybody has a few treasures..amidst a lot of fluff. I like Gently the best. Many of the cuts are uninteresting ballads. I tripped I stumbled I fell is a welcome ending.

    The bonus tracks keep the listener abreast of what hits Elvis released during this period. One grave omission is Wild in the Country. I hope to purchase more Elvis cds from Amazaon in the future.

    Elvis Is Back paired with Something for Everybody, along with non-LP singles from the sessions, adds up to an incredible double-disc set. Elvis Is Back (1960), along with From Elvis in Memphis (1969), bookend that decade as his two best post-army albums. On Elvis Is Back (and singles), he shows off his new voice and takes on material from across the pop scene spectrum. 1961's Something for Everybody (again, plus singles) is a bit less successful, but only because the playlist isn't quite as strong. His vocals are a wonder to behold throughout -- committed, strong or gentle, always in service of the song. He's like a method actor of music, bringing the full depth and weight of his life experiences to each performance, especially the ballads. Highly recommended, and not just to dyed-in-the-wool Elvis fans. This is a great collection for all popular music lovers.

    Elvis Presley was fat and playing Vegas when I started tuning into his music. Sure, I'd heard "Hound Dog" as a boy, but I played "Purple People Eater" more than Elvis. It is a treat for me now to hear this Legacy Edition of two of his albums that I never heard with some added singles on each disc. While all recordings are a product of their time, some of the music reads as dated, interesting like looking at a musical fossil. However, some of it is incredibly stunning! Elvis' take on Peggy Lee's classic "Fever" is one I NEVER heard! Elvis smokes on the track with his voice trembling and the percussion subtle but wonderful. The Drifters' "Such a Night" pulses joyfully with Elvis savoring each sonic kiss. "It Feels So Right" bakes delightfully as Elvis turns up the heat, "If it feels so right, how can it be wrong?" "A Mess of Blues" from the added tracks joyfully swaggers. On the second disc, "His Latest Flame" plays like a rock tango. "Little Sister" is one of my very favorite Elvis tracks with its naughty playfulness. "Good Luck Charm" still sets my toe tapping and puts a smile on my face. "Elvis Is Back!" Legacy Edition is a great set of music from one of American musical icons. Enjoy!
