- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2011I'm 35 years old; I've been watching this show since I was four years old. It's the only show that I have literally watched from the time I was able to actually watch TV and know what was happening. "Perry Mason" was early television, made during a period in history (an all too short period) when the focus was on quality and not as much on moneymaking. If ever there was a TV actor who earned his paychecks, it was Raymond Burr - and actually that goes equally for William Hopper, William Talman, Barbara Hale, and Ray Collins. Those guys really knew how to bring it. Although the shows followed a formula, and most of them have the same flavor, they never fail to keep our attention. The best episodes are like short movies, and the average ones are still as good today as any of the best courtroom/legal shows (although most of the ones after "Matlock" just suck.) I am also a huge fan of "Twilight Zone" and for almost every episode of Perry Mason, an actor who also worked on "Twilight Zone" could be found. I'm not sure if the same casting directors worked on both shows but if so, it wouldn't surprise me. "Twilight Zone" rarely miscast a role and they only hired the best actors around - and for the most part, "Perry Mason" did as well. My favorite regular Perry actors include Robert H. Harris (short, balding guy often cast as a slimy crook), Vaughn Taylor (who was in the pilot episode), S. John Launer (frequent judge), Ben Cooper, Ruta Lee (both Ben and Ruta did about six episodes where they played actually very weird people), Bill Erwin (played a variety of roles including coroner as well as crook), and a young and gorgeous Karl Held (about 10 episodes as Perry's assistant David Gideon, but they discontinued the character unfortunately.) Karl and his future wife actress Sarah Marshall did an episode together.
As for this DVD set - I'd say that it doesn't get much better than this. Sadly, DVD came around too late, so the possibility of doing commentaries or interviews with the actors/writers/producers was impossible because almost all of them are gone now and the few who are alive probably don't remember much, although everyone I've ever talked with who worked on that show had nothing but good things to say about Burr and Hale, that
they were very nice and very professional at all times. Perhaps on future season releases there will be some special features? Let's hope. The picture quality and menus are excellent. The DVDs for Season 1 had one major problem - there was no 'play all' feature and the menu had the theme song looping
constantly. But they fixed those things in Season 2. They changed the packaging - wisely - with the Season 3 releases and hopefully they'll keep
it the same from here on out (with all discs in one case.)
I was so stoked when Perry was released, finally, on DVD - and thankfully it ran for 9 years so the episodes are almost endless.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2011What can I say? The episodes, as usual, are excellent. Raymond Burr is perfect as Perry Mason. The picture quality is perfect, the sound equally good. If you like the Perry Mason stories, this is another must for your collection. I just wish they would bring the seasons out more quickly.
The episodes in this set include:

-The Case of The Glamorous Ghost - 2/3/1962
Disc 2-

-The Case of The Mystified Miner - 2/24/1962
-The Case of The Crippled Cougar - 3/3/1962
-The Case of The Absent Artist - 3/17/1962

-The Case of The Angry Astronaut - 4/7/1962

- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2013My question is, what happend to volume 1??? Great movies segments....but as in Season six some of our favorite characters are missing...but we have new policemen to take their place an Perry is not stuck in his office so all rolls along smoothly....this came shipped with volume six so it was just blind luck that I actually received them! It was in excellent condition also. I noticed that even though there were four discs, two of the discs only had three segments on them, so I felt somewhat shorted on that end!
Happy to place this in my library beside the other Perry Mason stories an I highly recommend it! (hopefully you won't have the same shipping problem I did!)
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2015I'm a big fan of Perry Mason, that era of television, and of shows that had likable characters with good story lines, and no filth or violence. I don't have cable. Instead I've assembled a library of shows from this era on DVD at a fraction of the cost cable would have been over the last 20 years. As months pass, I re-watch different series again. I love the mood, characters, and values in these shows. Perry Mason is probably one of my top 2 favorites. Pick some of these up if you're discouraged with much of the garbage on TV today. You might even drop cable and start your own library!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2011My wife and I have loved the Perry Mason TV series. Each show is different and most of the time the "whodoneit" is a surprise. Sometimes we can figure it out ahead of time, but most of the time, we can't. I grew up in this area in the 60s, so to look back and see how open Los Angeles and other cities were (Las Vegas, San Francisco, etc) and how light the traffic was back then is amazing and evokes fond memories. Raymond Burr and the rest of the regular cast are superb. We have every season published and are greatly looking forward to Seasons 6 and 7 being made available.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2021I keep waiting for Perry to lose a case and Mr Berger to win just once. Ah well. Della and Paul will be there
to help Perry in beautiful black-and-white and that, alas, with the opening shot and theme music, is quite
sufficient!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2010I FOR ONE AM SO HAPPY THAT PERRY MASON SEASON 5 VOLUME 2 IS FINALLY COMING SOON. I DIDN'T THINK IT HAD BEEN FORGOTTEN. JUST STRANGE THAT SEASON 6 SHOULD BE OFFERED BEFORE ANYMORE MENTION OF THE REMAINING EPISODES FROM SEASON 5. MY UNDERSTAND IS THIS IS WHEN PERRY MASON REALLY BEGIN TO GET GOOD. I FOR ONE HAS NOT SEEN ALL OF THE PERRY MASON EPISODES SO I AM VERY MUCH EXCITED THAT WE THE FANS ARE STILL BEING SATIFIED WITH THE CONTINUATION OF THE RELEASE OF MORE SEASONS. ALL I CAN SAY NOW IS I WANT MY COPY YESTERDAY.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perry Mason- A great TV series to enjoy
All Perry Mason TV programs are the best produced shows going! Great scripts, Great supporting actors to the series' regulars. Great chemistry between the regulars...I thoroughly enjoy each episode...I'm from the old school...Yesterday's programs were the best! Today's TV leaves a lot to be desired...It's all a rehash of the older programs of years gone...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lawyer casefiles.
Keeping up the high standard and most enjoyable. I keep pulling out the dvds to rewatch and apart from the clothes and cars the stories show no sign of age.
A backward look at good manners and gentlemen--I LOVE it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this show
I waited to get a good price for this DVD since I simply cannot afford the full price. It pays to wait. As with the previous Perry Mason DVD sets, the shows are complete and a joy to watch. I wish that there were some bonus features, such as commentaries or inclusion of Perry Mason movies from the 1980-1990's which I loved and are not available on DVD. Sigh.
