- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2019I have read all of Earnest K. Gann's books. It is very difficult to say which is best, but if pressed I would say Band of Brothers. It kept me in the most suspense, after of course reading the first couple of chapters, which for any of Mr Gann's books always seems to be kind of slow or difficult - unlike Ian Fleming's books which start out with a bang and stay that way to the end - this is his best book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2021I love this book. I am 75 years old. When I was seventeen, my mother took me to a movie. It was Fate Is The Hunter. I love this movie and I have this book also. I have always loved aviation.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2012Read book many years back but never owned copy. Great story about group of flyers and a great old airplane. Must read for those that love the Old Historic Birds.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2012I am an avid Gann fan. His books have generally given me so much pleasure and inspiration, I just have no words to tell. However, in this book, a work of fiction, I find his story just too much to accept. I suppose it is because he has always made the true life stories so immediately life like for me and his true adventures are simply so much more adventurous than just about any fictions I have ever read. His style is there, his devotion to his craft is there, and the work is certainly well colored and life-like,. It is just that for me, I simply felt let down for the content and the asking of the writer to believe a stretch too far. No one is perfect, and I would never think this book exposes any "clay feet". No one is perfect. This book is a testament to that maxim.

5.0 out of 5 stars really good fiction
I lent this book to a "friend" years ago, and never saw it again. So I bought a fresh copy. It is a really good read, if you are in the least bit aircraft minded. The book is many years old. It concerns an aircrash involving an ageing pilot, known to everyone in the industry as a maverick who cuts corners. Used as a scapegoat by the Taiwan authorities, he is wrongly accused of murdering his passengers. The plot concerns the action by a number of his friends, the band of brothers, to clear his name and save him from a lengthy jail sentence. I won't spoil it for you, but it involves the purchase of an ancient aircraft, the only thing available, to prove that the accident was not his fault. Excellent plot and writing. Even if you haven't a clue about the subject, you will enjoy how the plot jogs along, and finally unravels. Brilliant writing by a master of the art. The interaction between the brothers and the local characters involved, and the wrangling that goes on to save "face", the curse of the Orient, is fascinating. An excellent read, and highly recommended. It's the sort of book that you'll take down to the beach, and return burnt to a crisp because you couldn't put it down, And nothing to do with the film of the same name that's doing the rounds at present. Enjoy.
