I'd been going back and forth between trying this glass cleaner and using the wood ash method. I don't like buying things if there's another way to do it. Well, I got this product and then thought I'd see which method I liked best. I can tell you that I only used the ash method once! ;-) The ashes did work, but it took longer and was quite a bit messier and I think I ended up using 4 paper towels. I can clean the glass with the Red Devil 700 product, usually with just one paper towel.
This product is a "cream" and you don't have to use much. All I do is put a small amount on a folded paper towel and then go over the whole glass. It cuts the film on the glass, even in the corners where it is built up slightly. There is no rubbing or having to scrub to get the deposits off. Then I turn the paper towel and use that side to remove any remaining residue. Sometimes if the glass is somewhat dirty, I'll use a little more of the cream and go over it again.
I have not tried the spray type cleaners and don't intend to. Not having to spray onto the glass with the resultant mess, breathing in the mist, etc. is avoided by using this easy to use cream.
I can't say if the "conditioning" part makes the cleaning easier, but the main point is that it's just really easy! I think a bottle will last me an entire heating season, from October through April here in WI using the stove as the single source of heat.
