Easy to assemble volcano

Easy to assemble volcano
This was an easy model to assemble. Putting the plaster strips on wasn't super messy and the whole structure was covered.Paints come with base, structure, tube and plaster strips but there wasn't a paintbrush. The paints included wouldn't of covered the entire model so we picked up a paint brush and paint to add to it. You also have to purchase the ingredients for the explosion.Unfortunately, using the instructions and materials recommended, his didn't "explode." Im not sure what he did wrong but we included everything needed to create the eruption and sent it to school with him (with instructions). All in all, an easy volcano model to make just make sure you pick up extra paint, a brush and the ingredients for the eruption.

This was a birthday gift for a 5th grader who was studying earth science. He and his grandfather put it together and painted it. The "lava" bubbled out the top and ran down the sides of the crater they made, but we felt the instructions were a bit ambiguous, and we had to ad lib a bit on amounts. The glow in the dark add on was a nice touch, but it was very faint.

This was the first volcano for my oldest daughter school project. The new kit (with the glow in the dark lava) is what I received. Please ignored the older reviews apparently the kit has been redesigned. I put the cardboard frame with the string together and my 11 year old daughter was able to easily paint and design her project. The instructions do mention the need for additional paint. We were able to use paint we had on hand from previous school project. It did not take much time to cut the strips of plaster tape and apply to the frame (cardboard & string). We let it dry over night and then paint the volcano the next day. This kit created a large volcano - the bottom is larger than the avg size dinner plate & the total height is approx 12-14 inches. We paint the side of a cardboard box as a base for the volcano. My daughter was instructed to bring her volcano to school with 1/4 cup vinegar, 2-3 drops of dish soap, and 1-2 drops of red or orange food color already in the tube. After presenting her volcano, my daughter's class went outside to erupt their volcanoes by adding 1 tablespoon of baking soda to the mixture in the tube. The results were great! This kit was such an easy relief! It was so much easier than I thought. I followed the advice of an earlier review and used scissors to cut the slits just a little before starting. I had a couple of slits that did not line up exactly (due to my error not the kit) and I just cut another slit to line the cardboard bases up.

Well.. my stepson needed a volcano project for school… this had all the pieces.. just had to put it together (which means: I didn’t have to run around town collecting items.. yay!).

My kids loved working on this and putting it together. The glow in the dark part doesn’t really work, but the volcano itself was really fun!

The volcano itself was pretty great (we got the newer kind with plaster strips instead of a mold), but I was disappointed that the paints included had completely dried up. We couldn't use them at all. I had to run and buy craft paint to use, and my son was awfully disappointed that the glow-in-the-dark lava paint was not usable.

I followed the included instructions to use baking powder and vinegar instead of baking soda and it didn't work at all. It's possible that my baking powder needs to be replaced, though.

The box is a little misleading, in my opinion. It says that it includes two volcano bases, which suggests to me that you can make two volcanoes with the kit. Not the case - you use both bases for one volcano. I also thought that it included something to make the actual lava eruption glow, but it's just the paint.

Straightforward volcano kit. Warning: It is a bit messy to construct. Plaster-coated strips flake, so be sure to put a drop cloth underneath! Double sided tape is provided to construct the frame of the volcano but I used a hot glue gun instead. It came out great and the kids all had fun helping me create this. I deducted one star because I don't think there was an adequate amount of paint provided. I had to add about 1oz of my own brown craft paint and also some additional orange to do a really good job covering the structure and create a good "lava flow" effect. The glow in the dark orange "lava" paint provided was a nice touch. The instructions for construction of the volcano or printed on the back of a nice poster with images and facts about volcanoes. Other than the insufficient amount of paint this was a fun activity for the kids and great value for the money.
