- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2025Warner Brothers Studios released on Blu-ray this still provocative action-drama from 1993 starring Michael Douglas as a man who, on one fateful, hot summer day in L.A, abandons his car stuck in a highway traffic jam and begins a walking trek to ostensibly go home (despite being divorced from his bitter wife played by Barbara Hershey), but encounters many hostile people on the way as his journey becomes increasingly violent as a result, leading to mixed motivations, as a police detective (played by Robert Duvall) is on the case trying to make sense of it all.
Looking just fine in HD, a reasonable improvement on the DVD, though nothing new here is included. Fascinating and still timely film has only become more relevant over the ensuing decades, while the main character ("D-Fens") is largely sympathetic (depending on the viewer of course, and what they bring to the film) his actions become more random and self-destructive until he meets his inevitable end; compare his character to say Paul Kersey from "Death Wish" to see what I mean, as Paul remained in control of his actions, while D-Fens did not. Douglas in particular is a standout.

Really enjoyed this all the way through.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2024The movie FALLING DOWN was released in 1993, so if I spoiled it for you with my words, I'm sorry. Watch it for yourself; you'll just know how it ends. You wanted to anyway.
Hot off the heels of BASIC INSTINCT, Michael Douglas follows up that film with a deconstruction of a lousy day piece. Michael Douglas was an excellent choice for this role. His natural pacing and presence pull you in quickly, forcing you to forgive William's in-world behaviors. They seem so incredibly familiar that you would expect to hear about them in today's society, making his frustrations more relatable.
Minus a few outdated stereotypes, you would think this movie, FALLING DOWN, was released recently. Some scenes haven't aged as well as others, but it has a lot of elements that, as the viewer, we can latch on to and feel some sort of way if we were in a similar experience; that's what keeps us routing for William Foster.
The film increasingly eggs you on while we watch what is going to be important to the narrative of William's declining mental health and his lack of emotional stability.
Slowly, you learn about his life. Things like he has a daughter, lost his job, he was married, and now he's divorced.
His ex-wife wants little to do with him, and she wants him to do little with their daughter. His motivation to get to his daughter's birthday party is the driving force of the movie. He goes through so much just to get there that you forget he wasn't invited. And it gets worse from here.
You start to see how the movie and William's journey will end badly. You don't want it to end up that way, but it is going to. You'll see, it's a good movie. Enjoy

- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2025There are a lot of these kind of movies out, where some guy just loses it and goes nuts. But this one really has some heart. On both sides. It’s not silly and overly violent or cartoony. This really feels right. It’s heartbreaking. Good movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Michael Douglas at his best.
This is a movie for our times. It reflects a guy who lost his job, his wife. his sanity, and has a melt down. Of course the heat and the traffic in Los Angeles, exacerbates the problem. He goes into a rampage with just about anyone who enters or crosses him. I am a die hard fan of Michael Douglas - a superb actor, but, this move showcases his great talent and expertise. Worthy of an Academy award; this is M. Douglas best movie. If I could give this movie a 10 - I would. Although made decades ago, it resonates today, more than ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo DVD Film discreto
Il DVD BR è veramente ottimo per audio e video che sono perfetti. Il film non è male anche se ci sono almeno due scene di imperdonabile banalità (bazooka e bambino).
