On a unrelated product note, I just found out today that Bill Newberry has passed about a month ago. I mentioned his name in my original review about Youtube videos I reviewed in preparation for disassembling my dryer in order to install the belt. Although I didn't rely on his video when I finally did the work, I like to say that Bill's videos are awesome. He is down-to-earth and I like his confidence giving out straight shooting information about his experience with dryers. I remember his videos also covered Samsung dryers so that was very helpful. I also remember viewing his other dryer videos and I really like his sense of humor, personality and civility. He is like a good friendly neighbor that I wish I had the opportunity to meet.
Cheers Bill! Here's to you and your family! :)
Just a short note, my dryer is still working so yay! However I think the real test is if the belt lasts as long as the original. If not, I now have a backup belt from partshousesupply.
Original review:
I have an 8 year old Samsung gas dryer, model no: DV218AGW/XAA and it broke down on Friday Sept. 23, 2016. I didn't know why it happened. The dryer just stopped but the control panel lights were still on and the time remaining showed an hour and three minutes. The clothes were still wet but they were also very warm to hot. I tried many times to start the dryer and even tried waiting a bit and unplugging and re-plugging the power cord but none of it worked.
Finally I realized that rather than try to re-start the dryer, the higher priority was to bring my clothes to a laundromat and use their dryer instead. I didn't want to be stuck with wet clothes that would become stinky and require another wash cycle. After the laundromat trip, I then searched on Youtube to see how to diagnose my dryer. Sure enough one of the top problems is a broken dryer belt. A sure fire way to check it is to unscrew two screws at the back, sliding off the top cover and looking for the belt in the middle of the tumbler.
Later on in the evening I went to two big DIY stores and brought my broken belt and also the flexible aluminum hose connected to the exhaust since I removed it to see how the belt is connected at the bottom. The orange store did not carry any dryer belts but I did buy a replacement hose. The blue store did carry belts but there were two issues. First is their belts have four ribs, mine has five. Second is the circumference didn't match. I measured mine to be around 92 inches. So much for trying to get it fixed soon.
During the night, I searched online to find the right belt and discovered that I should get 6602-001655. Man that's a mouthful. For some strange reason, Amazon has two listings and one has a lower starting price. I couldn't figure out the difference. I was thinking: It's a belt made of rubber, has some kind of metal wires inside for stability, has five ribs and has the right circumference; What is the difference? I ended up choosing the lower priced one and bought two from two different sellers. The first seller, PartAdvicecom, had the lowest price but had an expected delivery of the beginning of the second week to middle of third week. The second seller, partshousesupply, was just about 30 cents more but had an expected delivery of end of first week to middle of second week.
Guess which one arrived first? I researched Friday night and finally placed my order past midnight, technically on Saturday. My order with PartAdvicecom arrived first and arrived super earlier than expected! It arrived on Monday just after the weekend.
Thank you so much PartAdvicecom for shipping fast. I was able to fix my dryer the same day and get it working again.
I found out one reason PartAdvicecom shipped so fast is because they mailed my order on Saturday and I am also thankful for USPS for processing and delivering mail on the weekend so that it would arrive on Monday.
Meanwhile for my other order, the shipping label was created on Monday and the item finally accepted by USPS on Tuesday. USPS says expected delivery is Friday, so it's still good.
As for the belt, I reviewed Youtube videos by Bill Newberry and AppliancePartsPro many times during the weekend to prepare. I eventually relied on AppliancePartsPros because the video showed every part being removed and also put back on. Although the videos showed how to route the belt, it was a bit harder than it look because I really had to push the idler pulley back and also stretch the belt a bit to loop it on the motor. And I did this all by feel because the tumbler is in the way, but it has to be there otherwise there is no dryer! Fortunately while I was taking apart the dryer as directed by the videos, the tumbler can be easily removed so that I can see inside and feel how the belt should be routed. Additionally I was able to get rid of more lint. I took a long time to get everything working again because I spent a lot of time cleaning out lint. For an 8 year old dryer, it was about time I learned how to take it apart and clean out the lint. I also cleaned the exhaust pipe of lint by using these flexible and connectable sticks with a circular brush at one end and the other end connected to a power drill to eventually push the lint out the other side. Since I was replacing the flexible aluminum hose connecting the dryer's exhaust to the exhaust pipe, I figured I might as well clean the exhaust pipe too.
The belt as delivered by PartAdvicecom came in a sealed slightly heavy duty clear plastic bag. The belt looked good and fit perfectly and more importantly my dryer works again. Thank you PartAdvicecom for selling this and for fast Saturday delivery! I appreciate it very much!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2024I have to replace my heater so I am replacing the belt as well. I saw it is starting to split so figured it would have lasted five years with probably five hours a week use. I am good with this life span for the price.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2022It fits and works fine. Time will tell how durable it is. There is no indication that it's a Samsung OEM part; it's packed in a plain plastic bag with the part # on a white sticker. There is no indication of where it was manufactured.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2017Best price for this piece. Note that all that comes is the belt, no instructions, so if you are replacing this yourself it would be best if it is not the first time you've done this. Arrived even a little earlier than suggested, a surprise given the fires and storms that seem to have been so disruptive during the time we ordered this. Also confusing was the different labels. Can't find it now but the part description and picture on the Samsung site did not look or sound right, but was the correct part. It was labeled something like a reduction belt when I wanted it to say drum belt, and the picture looked like maybe a six inch piece where I was expecting more like what we got. All that being said, it installed fairly easily, and is working fine.

Not that difficult to install just laborious to take the dryer apart to reach the location were the belt goes. Was tighter than on the YouTube video definitively need two hands. As for longevity will have to see how long it last! So far so good!
