    Glad I ignored the negative reviews. Personally, I LOVE them. Some of them are really soft and they crumble so you have to blow away the leftovers. They do not smear or rub off on your hands while coloring. I will post a pic of a sample test I did using my mail. I used prisma verithin in black on one side so you can see the diff with the metallic placed on a white vs black background(more like colored pencil background). Black construction paper would def make the metallic pop. It is still noticeable on white paper but more so in person. You will not see the true effects via photos BUT I tried my best to angle it against natural sun light and you can kind of see it. One thing that I dislike is there are no names on each colored pencil, just a number AND nothing on the box to distinguish colors either?!I colored a flower pic out of one of my coloring books using nothing but the metallics just for review purposes so please ignore the flaws as I didn't take my time at all. I angled it in many ways so the indoor lighting can capture the effect. Using the flash kills the metallic sheen. These are not good for coloring large areas IMO, better for subtle effects coloring small areas, jewelry, or for use on flowers to create Certain effects. I will also attach 2 more pics I colored using FC classics but I did use diff green metallics on the leaves and the blue metallic for the background color.Update:check out my Caran D'ache review on their metallics. I posted a 9th pic here comparing these in the sunlight. FC on top and Caran D'ache on bottom. I took off a star because the Caran D'a has more of a true metallic effect than these.

      This is my first set of Faber-Castell Color Pencils. I chose to begin with the 12 Metallics set because of looking for new metallic media for Steampunk projects.

      Overall I was very pleased with my experience with the brand. These pencils have a very creamy and smooth texture to them. There is no scratching or dragging on the various papers I have used them on. In comparison they remind me of eyebrow pencils , this isn't to say that they rub off easily.Just in the way you don't need to bear down to apply color to your project

      While I do give 5 stars to products that I really like and know that I'm going to buy more of; I try not to say that I love an item. However in this case I was very happy with the way my finished projects looked. The ability to blend these pencils so effortlessly , as well as combining them with watercolor pencils (dry), markers, gel pens. That I did actually find myself using the words I love these Faber-Castell pencils to my friends and family.

      I consider myself a colorist, it is my favorite hobby. Personally I have shied away from certain name brands that I knew we're used predominantly in art colleges etc... As I always thought of them as for the professional artists and that is how I viewed this brand. This set is marketed towards children and, why I started here also. After this experience I have plans to explore this brand further. If you are like me and are on the fence about trying a brand you see as for serious artists. Give these pencils a try.

      There is only one drawback and I really didn't think it was fair to remove a star because it really isn't a part of the product as much as it is with some of the reviews I read while contemplating my purchase. A couple of reviewers list detailed names for this pack of 12 pencils. I however, couldn't find any bases for this listing. It isn't part of the product page nor is it on the packaging or on the barrels of the pencils themselves. So this was a misleading detail that I had expected to be apart of the product.

      Final Conclusion: This is a very good metallic media. That enhances various projects . The results are more dramatic on a black background and subtle on a white background. I definitely recommend this product to others.

      * Note: These pencils are semi- hexagon shape and don't fit inside a round pencil sharpener. Some Faber- Castell sets come with a sharper. This set does not.

      I have three other Faber-Castell sets of colored pencils and I love them alot. I was disappointed that of 12 metallic colors there are more colors that are purple, pinks, blues & greens than metal colors. The gold doesn't look gold on paper. There is one that is probably copper and one that is probably brass, but that's it!!! How about mercury, iron, lead, cobalt, platinum, zinc, tin etc?
      I know a lot of products come in metallic colors (hence the purples, pinks and blues, but having the name of the color on the pencil would be help a lot. That is a common problem with Faber-castell colored pencils. Of all four F-C colored pencil sets, only one has the color names imprinted on the pencil.
      Of course the metallic pencils work well but don't have names on them and have very few metal colors. I like Faber-castell colored pencils a lot, but I probably will not buy replacements when the time comes, because not having the color on the pencil is a deal breaker for me. I do a lot of coloring book coloring and I often need to finish another day, and having the color on it would help me find the correct pencil. As it is I often find myself grabbing a pencil that is close in color, but not the same and it causes problems.
      The name on the pencil is info that should be given to people who are purchasing online. It would be an important piece of info for me.

      These are AWESOME Pencils, They work best on dark paper but work well on the Adult Coloring books like Secret Garden they do give a sheen to the art. I have to say Customer service is AWESOME! These are HIGH-QUALITY Pencils but I had a problem with 2 of them---FREAK problem. I think it slipped by quality control somehow. I sent just a message to them figuring they would make me pack them up and send them in and then wait forever to get replaced... NOPE not at all. I even offered to take pics of it and nope not needed without question they are sending a replacement. I had to pay nothing. I bought a cheap set and they are horrible and they are making me send them back and take pics in order to replace. NOPE, NOT THESE FOLKS. I will be buying ALL my colored pencils and pens through these folks just because of the great quality and great customer service. 5 Star, frankly 6 stars.
