Product Description

Product Description

This four hour DVD covers 21 assessment techniques for the nerves and surrounding structures of the back, pelvis, and legs. The advanced nerve tension tests will allow the therapist to precisely evaluate the sciatic, tibial, peroneal, and sural nerves to discover exactly where they are impinged. Then Doug Alexander, an instructor at Algonquin College in Canada, will lead you through over 32 techniques to release the structures involved. These include myofascial release techniques, fluid (lymphatic) techniques, and muscle release techniques as well as direct nerve gliding and stretching. Each technique is designed to free restrictions along the path of the nerve and normalize tissue function from the hip to the foot. Finally Doug shows 12 home care exercises that the client can do to help support their recovery. This DVD is presented in widescreen format.

Excellent presentation. Easy to follow the demonstrations.

I ordered this DVD after receiving the upper extremity mobilization DVD and reviewing it.
Initially, I was a little perturbed that the teaching format was a little different from the upper extremity, but after seeing it all, it makes a lot of sense.
Doug presents the information thoroughly and clear.
This is the first time I bought an instructional video and I am very pleased with the knowledge I gained and have been able to apply.

I remember some of these assessment techniques from massage school but how can we possibly remember everything. The video sparked my memory of the most efficient way of approaching these difficult low back and hip pain symptoms. If I would have watched this earlier I am sure that I would have helped more people recover from their chronic pain faster.

Thanks for such a great video!

I love it, but I wish Doug include the technique on how to do the job on big client. For an asian therapist it kind of tough!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is excellent - includes 12 "home care" exercises. BUT - wot, no mention of biofeedback devices?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 27, 2021
I bought this because I pinched a thoracic nerve in my back at Christmas, after years of lower-back problems. So I'm making use of lockdown - educating myself on various aspects of my health, by watching DVDs - nutrition, massage, diabetes, etc.

This 'Nerve Mobilisation' DVD is excellent, really helpful - and includes 12 "home care" exercises (two of them are for the foot/ankle - Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome, which is the lower body equivalent of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome).

Doug Alexander is utterly brilliant (you can see some of his demos on youtube also) - he takes you through the tests that are done to identify the muscles which are hurting / not functioning properly, as part of following the trail of the back's major nerves. There is a 2nd DVD for the upper body and arm (I also have that one).

Although he does briefly mention BIOFEEDBACK, where the therapist checks that you are performing an exercise properly, while you're with them in the treatment room - I heartily wish he'd also mentioned that you can get a reasonably-priced biofeedback pressure device to use it at home, which ensures that your exercise technique is right. For a "motor moron" like me, who really struggles with correct technique, it would have helped to know.

Anyways - I recently discovered there is a STABILIZER PRESSURE BIOFEEDBACK device, so that you can maintain the progress on your exercises. There is one that's around fifty quid (Chattanooga) on Amazon, and another that's around thirty quid (IDASS ?), a worthwhile investment in your rehab / recovery.

Hope that helps anyone struggling with their backs, as there seems to be an epidemic of it for home workers.
(I also recommend getting a decent DVD on MYOFASCIAL RELEASE, and using a tennis / lacrosse ball to massage your back against a wall - it really helps to loosen up those muscles and to dissolve trigger points in your back !)
