Once they discover where to put a chocolate piece, they combine this knowledge with the clues to learn more information. Some clues give exact or possible locations, while others just give you the token color or shape. Your confidence builds as you narrow down the possibilities to fill each candy assortment. Challenges ranging from beginner to expert will feed your chocolate cravings for hours.

Delicious idea but game play melted in my brain

Delicious idea but game play melted in my brain
I am counting down the final days to retirement, so I have been collecting games that I could enjoy as solo game play and I desire games that will challenge me and take a while to solve so that I can play for a while. This game has received rave reviews and 2 specific reviews caught my attention and "sold" me on the game. One reviewer said if you liked Sudoku you would like this game. Well, I love Sudoku! I have the puzzle books, the board game version with wooden tiles for placement and the electronic hand-held game. So I figured Chocolate Fix would have similar rules for placement. Another reviewer mentioned she got stuck on puzzle 14 or 15 (I can't remember the specific puzzle number) and it was an Intermediate level. I figured that was the sign of the game getting more challenging. So I purchased the game and when it was delivered I was so excited. The game box was crunched a tadbit in one corner but that didn't bother me because when I opened it, none of the components had been damaged. One reviewer said she thought the gameboard was about 6x6. I didn't measure but the chocolate candy pieces had a circumference close to a quarter and oh, the pieces were so well designed in a 3 dimensional aspect and they looked like yummy pieces of candy. The visual design is appealing. There's a puzzle book with 60 beginner to expert challenges. The book has a spiral ring at the top like perpetual calendars, so you can open it and display it like an easel. The solution to each puzzle is on the backside of the puzzle you're working. The instruction manual is a generic style black and white printed and folded insert. I think the instructions were printed in 6 or 8 languages but I didn't count them. I am attaching a copy of the English instructions. I read the instructions and immediately noticed a problem: There are NO instructions for placement of pieces AFTER you have placed the initial pieces. Some the challenges, as in the very first one, will be cut and dry with where the starter pieces go. Others will give you the possibility of a piece going in one of two locations, so you assume you need to use deductive reasoning to determine which space is the correct one. Not the case once you realize there are NO rules for how the remaining pieces can be placed. So each puzzle gives you a layout for where some starter pieces can be placed. The very first puzzle was cut and dry...it told you where to place 7 of the 9 chocolate candy pieces. So there were 2 remaining pieces. Sudoku has rules that tell you numbers cannot be repeated in columns, rows, or 3x3 grids. I "thought" Chocolate Fix would have a rule telling you that you couldn't place chocolate pieces of the same color OR shape in the same row or column. NOPE! There is no rule that states placement. And if you look at the picture diagrams I have provided for puzzle 1, you will see that they have already told you to place 2 chocolate pieces in the same row and in the same column, so there goes my thought that there would be rules of placement. So you have 2 remaining pieces to place and NO rules of placement. I saw a few reviews that said some puzzles would have many solutions. Well, IF there are NO rules for placement, how do you know if you are placing correctly other than looking at the solution? I placed the pieces and flipped the page and lo and behold, I didn't have the correct solution as presented on the answer key. But how did the developers come to the conclusion of what was the correct answer IF there are many possibilities? I have attached pictures of what the answer key says was the correct solution and also attached a picture of what the other solution could be. I moved on to another puzzle and placed the starter pieces and the results were the same. You see, without rules for placement of the remaining pieces, all you need to do is place the starter pieces and then randomly fill the board with remaining pieces. Without rules for placement of the remaining pieces there is nothing to explain why their solution is correct and yours is wrong. The game is recommended for ages 8-99, but if you explain to a 4 or 5-year-old that they need to place the pieces from the puzzle book diagram first, well, they can place remaining pieces to their heart's content and win the game because as many are stating in reviews, some puzzles have many solutions. So after working 2 puzzles and getting frustrated because it lacked challenge, I returned the game. I didn't have any problems with my return but this game truly does have potential if the rules were thought out a little more. Just have a rule that you cannot place the same color/shape in same row or column. I tried that way of thinking for a 3rd game but unfortunately, that "rule" doesn't work IF the pre-placed pieces already go against the rule. Thus, in my opinion, there is no challenge or strategic planning. Lots of potential but lacked proper rules before being pushed out.

The price was very good for this brilliant product. Also, I love how there aren’t too many prices to lose. The booklet of “orders” which the child works on completing is a spiraled and won’t get lost or spilled all over the house. It’s mainly 9 plastic chocolate pieces. Originally I got this as I wanted to keep my child busy on their own if they want some quiet time and still keep their thinking brain on. It does require patience and readjusting and for a child who can do it , it is great! Another good idea is to use for parent to play with child and spend some quality time. I’d buy another one if I needed it

I love this game!! I had one from the early 2000’s and the chocolate pieces were strawberry, milk and dark chocolate, this one has strawberry, chocolate and white chocolate. The old version has a better booklet of puzzles, where it’s on a spiral with a stand, but overall the same concept game. I think it’s fun to sit down and play and the challenges are good. I enjoy teaching students how to play it and they all get hooked! One of the best Thinkfun games we have!

I have had this in my cart for probably a year. Got an Amazon card for Mother’s Day & decided I could finally buy it. I am almost 71 years old & a retired teacher. Since it arrived a few days ago, I keep it on my dining table & work one of the challenges 2-3 times a day. There is a sturdy booklet that comes with it. One side gives clues. When you turn that page over, you see the solution. There are 40 challenges. I have completed 15 & am on the intermediate level. Number 15 took a little time, but I got it. Based on that, I think the whole booklet will keep me engaged. The game is small. I just pulled out a ruler. The play base is 6” x 6”. The candy pieces are very cute & well made. It comes with a nylon travel bag. I can see a lot of good times ahead with this game. It is a one player logic puzzle type of game. But you could work the puzzles with a partner or take turns solving the challenges. I really like this game & am glad I purchased it.

I have had the old one since it came out. When I saw that they had updated it I had to have it.
The thing's I like about this new one:
It has place holders that make the the puzzles easier to solve.
The things I don't like so much:
The clue book isn't as well made.
*The rules used to be in the clue book and are now on a folded piece of paper that comes with the game makeing them easier to lose.
*The old clue book had a stand makeing easier to see the clues. The new one doesn't have a stand.
      * The old bag was smaller but I feel like it was made better, and it had a plastic piece that held the bag closed.
So if their are so many things that I didn't like then why the 5 stars? When my game came in I had a piece missing I called THINK FUN and they sent me a new piece. They took care of it in less then 5 minutes. It was the best customer care experience that I have ever had.

As an adult, this is one of my fave logic game to play. I purchased it for my daughter and she liked solving how to place the candy pieces to solve the logic puzzle. This is a quick to learn and easy to understand how to play puzzle.

This is a well made little game and is quite entertaining. There is a booklet with I believe 40 challenges that you have to solve. They start out pretty easy and then get to be quite tricky. Because of the various levels this can be fun for a variety of people, younger and older kids as well as grown ups.
I am still only giving it 4 starts instead of 5 because the fun is quite limited, once you are through with the 40 challenges you could start over but I am not sure that would be fun any time soon. So you'd have to put it away for a couple of years and see if it's fun again or instead I will probably pass this on to someone else once I am through with the challenges in the booklet.

As a gifted program teacher, this and other “Think Fun” games are developed to teach children how to solve the problem. Children and teens of all grades love these games ! They are durable and invitingly beautiful! My grandson, Mason is always excited to solve one or two problems, feel successful and run outside to play! It’s a great break from computer games.

Are you as sick of electronic stuff as I am? I feel like the kids would spent, if allowed, all of their waking time in front of a computer or a TV. I've had decent control over this by not allowing DS, PS, Wii, etc. until now. But, that's another story. With regard to this item, I found my daughters playing with it a lot, even my one daughter who normally doesn't gravitate to brain challenges (that sounds bad, right?).

Anyway, it's a portable game for one person that will keep the kids entertained for a while. I would say it's appropriate for under age 12 or so because I think it may be too easy to figure out after that.

All of the ThinkFun items are good.
