Editorial Reviews
It is rare to find five people with similar backgrounds, similar beliefs, and similar commitment. Balsam Range is thatand more! This group feels that it is an honor to share their musical heritage, to showcase their mountain culture, and to create excitingmusic each time they walk on stage. Their new album contains appearances by DoyleLawson, Joe Diffie Jim Vancleve and Jerry Salley.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2014Let me preface this by saying I'm a big fan of Balsam Range. They're as good as any bluegrass band out there and better than most. Five contains several award-worthy songs, just as did Papertown. In my opinion, however, I don't think I'd give Five the Album of the Year award because I really didn't like two of the songs in this otherwise stellar set. I thought From a Georgia Battleground and I Spend My Days Below Ground were both very well done, very polished, but very much a downer, especially I Spend My Days Below Ground! It's to BR's credit that the performances were powerful and effective enough to bring me down as far as they did. For the first time in 5 Balsam Range CD's I find myself skipping over 2 of the tracks. That said, the rest of the set is so good I still just have to give Five 5 stars and consider my purchace money well spent, and I believe you will, too, whether you agree about the two aforementioned tracks or not.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2014One of their best albums yet! The harmonic blend of music and voices brings true the nature of every song. This group will win more awards this year with this album. It's like you took all the true bluegrass roots of that style of music and put a pinch of true southern country in a jar, shook it up, and out came this blend called "Balsam Range". This group will leave their mark on the Bluegrass nation as being Iconic within the mantra. True music legends in the making!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2013Yes, I am biased because I live in the same community as this band and I know all 5 of them; however, they ARE fabulous. I've followed their rising careers since they started together in '07, and I can't say enough good things about this group of guys or their music. If you are unfamiliar with them and like excellent bluegrass, definitely give them a listen. You will probably end up as a fan for life.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2013If you are not familiar with Balsam Range, you are in for a treat. All top instrumentalists with soaring bluegrass harmonies. Buddy Melton's high tenor is the best out there. Listen to 'Blue Mountain' to get a sense of this group's fine qualities. My vote for the best bluegrass group currently playing these days.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2013This early CD by Balsam Range is my favorite although I like all of their CD's. This CD has a wide range of Bluegrass styles that I guarantee you will enjoy whether you have been a Bluegrass fan or not.
Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2014This band just keeps getting better and better. With the Five they've gone over the top good, maybe even great.Every song's a gem.The singing brings chills, the musicianship is awe inspiring. All I can say is buy this album, sit back and love it.
