It may be small, but it has a tight grip
Ever in search of the perfect pen nib holder, I ordered the Tachikawa Comic T25. My first impression was that this pen holder was shorter than expected. I had not checked the length in the description and had thought it had a larger girth than most, when it fact, it was just shorter. The product listing clearly states it is 5 inches long. For comparison, I've included a photograph with a few other pen holders. The plain black one is the plastic speedball straight holder. This holder is a lightweight and light colored wood with a smooth varnish finish of very good quality. The best part of this holder is the tip where the nibs are inserted. A second photograph shows the configuration with two rings that will fit either the larger (normal) sized nibs or the smaller ones. The small nib in the front is a Brause 66EF that fit better in this holder than any other I've tried. The Nikko G and Zebra Comic G as well as some Speedball and Mitchel nibs were a perfect fit. The rubber rings hold the nib well.My vintage Brause & Co. Bandzugfeder No.180 pen nibs nibs fit too loosely and could not be used in this holder. That's why having a selection to choose from is advantageous. This was a good addition to the collection.

I’m never going back to the metal fit nib holders! The rubber is so much nicer to get a nib into AND out of. So pleased!!

This nib holder has done great with almost every type of nib I’ve got. Speedball C’s and B’s, Hunt Imperial, Hunt 107, Brause Arrow, Blue Pumpkin, G nibs, etc etc. One nib holder to rule them all!

My Hunt mapping nib is a tiny loose, but still useable; of course my Tachikawa brand one fits snugly.

The only brand that does not fit at all are my Leonardt Round calligraphy nibs. (The Leonardt EF Principal does work.) Mitchell nibs fit great though. However, since this is mainly a drawing, not a calligraphy, nib holder, I’m not too fussed about this.

It is a shorter holder, which I greatly prefer. The wood feels nice. The grip section is a bit thicker than most holders you find at the craft store, which is easier on the hand. I used it for hours to test it, and had no hand strain or fatigue.

It IS shorter than either the Tachikawa T-40 or T-36. This nib holder is just shy of 5” long. If you’ve got big hands or prefer a little more length, try one of the others, which have the same style of rubber nib holder.

Overall, I think it’s a great first nib holder, and a great option for paring down an excessive nib holder collection. And you can’t beat the price. 10/10 would recommend!

This is an excellent nib holder.

I purchased this version versus the Tachikawa Comic Pen Nib Holder, Model 36, White Grip (T-36W) so that I could wrap the grip myself with masking tape, as I've done on pens and pencils for some time. That handles the issue with the lack of grip and allows me to customize the width to my tastes.

While I also ordered a few zebra nibs, my intention was to use this nib holder with the Speedball / Hunt 102 crow nibs. Unfortunately, they don't fit. The inner diameter is fine, but the outer diameter is slightly too narrow. A blog I found suggested that there's a difference between Japanese style mapping / crow nibs and the ones that Speedball makes and that the Japanese ones have a wider outer diameter (probably built from a thicker metal.)

NONETHELESS, there's an easy fix: cut a rectangle of clear tape (I used Scotch) and wrap it around the base of the nib. Two times around the circumference was enough for it to fit snugly and not fall out.

Fits both my Nikko G (large) and my Brause EF66 (small) calligraphy nibs, which is exactly why I bought it. The nibs stay put and its comfortable to hold! What more can you ask for?

I’ve just missed my return window because I kept hoping to find at least one nib that would work with this holder, but they are all, every single one of them, loose, so loose I can spin them around inside. So either my nibs are all too vintage and not meant for this holder, which only takes nibs that are still made today, but which I don’t use because they’re inferior to the vintage ones, or the rubber insert that is supposed to firmly hold the nib in the holder is faulty. But since I missed the return window, I’m keeping it, and will continue to seat for a nib that will stay put.
