If you have the really old Moentrol valve, this is pretty much your only option, but it looks good and is easy to install. I did need to get an adapter plate so the mounting screws lined up with the existing valve in the wall. Minus 1 star because one of the mounting screws was missing from the package, but after a 15 minute hold on the phone, Moen service is sending me one.

    I have a shower that was installed when my house was built 18 years ago. It has a moentrol valve. Of course the valve was located inside the wall that was behind the bathroom in a bedroom closet without an access panel. Since they don't make these valves anymore, I would have had to pay to have a hole cut in the wall and the valve removed and probably whatever other problems occured when removing an 18 year old valve. All I wanted to do was update my fixtures, not do major construction, and this worked out perfectly. It looks great and works flawlessly.

    What a difference over the old chrome trim kit that came with the house. The product is very easy to install. However, I had an older version of the Moentrol valve that required an adapter plate that simply screws onto the old mounting holes and provides the newer 45 degree angled mounting holes of the currently manufactured style trim kits. Not sure what the difference is for mounting the holes in different places. I think manufacturers do this sometimes just to sell more products. I upgraded and selected the oil rubbed bronze finish and also purchased the bath spout, overflow cap and matching drain. I would not recommend trying to match this finish with another manufacturer in the oil rubbed bronze if you want an identical finish. It was worth it to match the drain, overflow and spout to the valve trim. I did however, manage to select a different brand (Delta In2ition) in a similar finish (Venetian Bronze) and it matches nicely though there is a slight difference as the Venetian Bronze of the Delta shower head is slightly darker. This is not very noticable at all as the shower head is up higher and the valve trim is down lower. Would have purchased a Moen shower head but they don't make a comperabe product that I am aware of that matches the Delta In2ition combo shower/handheld unit.

    Not quite the colour of my other oil rubbed bronze fixtures, in fact it's more like a medium brown colour. I'm also not satisfied with the fact that this is the second valve trim I had to purchase because I thought I had a posi-temp valve but it turns out I have a Moentrol. I even went on the Moen website to try and find out what valve I had. Why can't Moen and every other company out there have ONE universal valve, so it doesn't cost a fortune to have a plumber change them??
