While it did do the job...
Review Update:I decided to bump this device up to four-stars. Upon even further very closely reading the instructions, the device is in fact charged when the Green "CHARGED" light goes on. The instructions explicitly state that you can leave the jump-starter plugged in and it appears that the DC power gauge won't ever reach the far right of the dial because it's not supposed to. It's a power meter, not a meter that lets you know how "full" it is like a gas tank meter. In other words, the needle at the 3/4 mark means it has that much electrical power--which is in fact its max possible storable voltage. This is also why they advise charging it after each use because stored power will eventually dissipate. The only added bit of confusion was when charging it via the provided 12 volt cigarette adaptor. They advise NOT leaving it charging once it's "full", which, from an empty state would take about 5 hours. I chose to not give this product five-star because of the instructions were just not as clear as they could be (there's no diagram, etc.)Original Review:Before I purchased this device, I did extensive research on the Lithium jump starters as well as alternate lead battery jump starters options with other bells and whistles like a tire inflator, light, etc. These are my findings as of the past couple days (Dec 4th & 5th) that hopefully will be useful to you.I have a small turbo-charged 4 cyl vehicle. The battery is 3 years old & the water levels are perfect.Unfortunately, I've had two jump starts from the auto club recently and it appears the battery won't hold a charge, despite driving around for better than 30 minutes each time thereafter.I chose to buy this product because it was nearly half the price of the top of the line Lithium charging product. Granted, this is larger and heavier, and while it wasn't just a price factor for me, price was a large part of taking a chance on it.I also bought it because the auto club mechanic advised me to invest in this type over the smaller Lithiums.I also chose this product because I liked the beefier alligator clips as well as the DC meter gauge than what the Lithium equivalents provide.I first read all the one-star complaints then read the five-star raves. My issue was that if the auto club jump start worked and I no longer had a battery concern, it could be months before discovering the need to use this one I purchased in order to verify it does in fact work, and thus would miss my window to return it. Unfortunately, I did not have to wait long to test it because the battery did in fact die again. The instructions on this product strongly advise you charge the device fully before first using it.This task is a bit cumbersome to do because it has a 2-prong "male" setup right on the device, into which you must plug an extension cord of your own. (or use the provided self-enclosed cigarette lighter cable, but who has a cig lighter anymore in their car??).Fortunately, I had a household extension cord available, and what's thoughtful about this device's design is the area into which you must plug the extension cord is somewhat widely recessed to accomodate an extension cord with multiple "female" receptacles on the end. I thought that was really nice.So before I began charging the device I pressed the red button to see exactly how much charge the battery came with. The reason I give this only three and not four stars is because after charging it for about 7 hours there was no appreciable or recognizable increase in voltage capacity when I pressed the red button again. Moreover, there are two lights and once I plugged it in to charge, the "CHARGED" light lit up. The "CHARGING" light never lit up. I don't know if it's because it had a "full charge" from the factory or if for some reason the device was not in fact charging. Either way, the "Charging" light was not lighting and the DC electric gauge indicated that it was three-quarters charged. The next day (today) I proceeded to use the device. The instructions clearly state to attach the Positive (+...red) clip to the Positive (+...red) battery terminal first. Then you are to attach the Negative (-...black) clip to the metal frame of your car (this is to prevent possibly inadvertently switching the clips b/c sometimes a battery can get so dirty you can't see the difference between Positive and Negative in the dark and could explode the battery). My car totally did not start like this. I even took a picture and posted it here to show I was connecting it per the instructions. Now, having had piece of junk cars in the past that often needing jumping, I decided to go old school and connect red-to-red and black-to-black (i.e. not connecting the black to the frame).Let me tell you, my car started up lickity split that way! It took no prisoners and did not blink an eye.I then proceeded to drive it around for thirty minutes, stopped to run an errand, and my battery yet again had died, which clearly tells me something more is going on with it. Fortunately, I brought the jump start device with me and I did not find myself stranded. My next stop objective is to find an auto parts store that can test the ability of the battery to hold a charge.I'm really happy with this product so far, with the exception that I could not discern if it was in fact recharging itself. This could be a problem down the road, but in the meantime it will have bailed me out a few times until potentially getting a new battery.Personally, I feel that if you know how to properly inflate your car tires or pump gas yourself, you should be able to easily use this device.Oh, one other really nice thing is that the manufacturer gives you an $85 coupon valid for one repair and shipping costs back to you. Of course, it's so heavy it might end up costing you $50 to ship it to them. haha

    • Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2017
      Style: Jump StarterVerified Purchase
      This is a combined review for the Jump-N-Carry JNC660, JNC311, and JNC318.

Back in November 2015, my car battery died on a particularly inconvenient day at work when I was dressed up and had an important presentation. Not life threatening - just inconvenient. The very next day, as I waited at the dealership while they installed a new battery, I ordered two JNC660s from Amazon (one for me, and one for my buddy who drove over to give me a jump start and waited until I left to make sure that my car kept running). I went with the Jump-N-Carry because of the many positive reviews over the years.

The JNC660 is rock solid...and weighs the part. It's not petite, either. However, it easily fits in a trunk or (in my case) on the floor behind my passenger seat. You need to have your own extension cord to charge it up, and it takes a while to get it all juiced up, but it stays charged for a long time. After about a year and a half, I finally noticed the charge meter drop a bit, so I plugged it back in to top it off. In other words, you don't need to make sure to charge this up every month. Charge it up, put it in your car, and forget about it (outside of checking the charge periodically).

The JNC660 inspires confidence, but like I said, it isn't small. After I bought two of them, I then started to see the much smaller battery pack sized units that other companies were selling (and that Jump-N-Carry now sells in the 311 and 318). I was _extremely_ skeptical that something that small could jump start a car, but I bought a couple, and the DO work. Well, the ones that I got do, anyway. I've had a ChargeIt! Jump in my car for about a year. I jump started my car with it just to make sure it would work, and after months in my car without being recharged, I got it out to jump start someone else's car...and it was still fully charged and worked beautifully. I love that little jump starter.

Enter the 311 and 318. They have a similar level of rugged construction to the 660, while having a big reduction in size and weight. Speaking of size, the 311 is noticeably smaller than the 318, and I prefer it. It's just a bit bigger than the ChargeIt! (and is more ruggedly built). I also like that they have flashlights on the front, which can be especially handy if you're needing to jump start a car in the dark. I'm nervous enough around car battery terminals - I definitely don't want to be fumbling around them in the dark.

I mention the more convenient size of the 311 because, if you're like me, you might have thought that they were the same size from the product photos and figured that for an extra ~$20, you might as well just go with the higher powered unit. Now that I have both of them, I'm going to carry the 311 in my car. The carrying cases are the same size, so you won't save any storage space - but it's just a slightly more convenient size to hold on to as your connecting up to the car terminals to jump start it.

That said, the 318 would be better for some of you. Here's what the 318 adds over the 311:
(*) It comes with a preheat option for cold weather
(*) It comes with the 12V accessory ("cigarette lighter" sized plug) that is optional for the 311
      (*) It's rated for 8-cylinder engines, versus 6-cylinder engines for the 311
(*) It has a second USB power port

I have a 4-cylinder engine and live in southern Arizona where it doesn't get very cold, so the 311 is perfect for me. At about $100, I think it's well worth it. The 318 is still fairly small for a jump starter and adds some good features, and although I like the 311 better for my uses, it's still a nice unit. The 660, while significantly larger and heavier than the lithium units, easily fits into a trunk or back seat, costs about the same, and has more power. Honestly, I think all three are good choices, but I am really happy to see Jump-N-Carry making the lithium units. They are just do darn convenient for the average consumer.

I wanted to explain how I decided to purchase this Jump-n-Pack so my review is long Sorry!

I have used many Jump Packs & all have worked OK in the past until I purchased a Larger Diesel Truck that is. This truck is a Mitsubishi FE140 with a 4Cyl Turbo Diesel engine. It has two Batteries & we have two inverters, a fridge etc that run of the truck.

One day we was shopping but when we returned to the truck no start because we left lights on OOPs. Now the store we were at had a normal Name Brand Jump Pack like you see in most stores. Unfortunately it didn't work at all.

So we called roadside Assistance which was to say the least an adventure.

      1. After over two hours of waiting & mis-communications a nice guy in a Honda that was barely running showed up. I was literally laughing as he pulled up with his little yellow light on the roof. His car was barely running. All he had was a smaller Clore Jump-n-Carry which didn't do any better than the other one we tried earlier. He gave up eventually

      2. Roadside Assistance Apologized & said they would send a more appropriate vendor to jump our truck.

      3. Next a truck larger than ours showed up so now Im thinking we are in good hands. Well he had a direct connection plug to use his truck to jump us which did work but not before trying for 30 minutes.

So after all this my BoyScout side said I would never be left in this situation again so I researched many Jump Packs on the web. Finally finding the Clore JNC660 which had a few reviews about it jumping even Larger Tractors which have multiple batteries. I decided I had nothing to loose so I purchased it during a Xmas Lightning deal thinking how is this Jump Pack going to work on our truck being this inexpensive. I purchased knowing Amazon would back it up & also thinking I could use it on our boat if nothing else.

I also made sure I was getting the newer model based on some reviews saying they didn't receive the updated model. At first all seemed well so I didn't get to test it out since I wasn't going to run batteries down purposely. Finally there was a day it happened the truck didn't start because something ran the batteries down. So I pulled the Jump-n-Pack out thinking I hope this works.

First of all it had nice long reach cables which was awesome since all others I have owned or tried had very short cables that required holding the jump pack up over batteries. Next I hooked it up went to cab tried to start & it fired up almost instantly to my amazement.

I have now had to use the Jump-n-Pack multiple times on this truck because the Fridge was running batteries down very fast due to defect. The Jump-n-Pack has not failed one time & has had to jump this truck not only once on a charge but 4 times in same day.

I know it is It is just a simple Jump Pack but it does the job so well all my vehicles will have one soon.

      Update 08/19/2013:

I have been using this for quite awhile now & it has never let me down yet. I have used it to boost my Fuso Turbo Diesel truck multiple times, Our Land Rover, Lawn Mower as well as our Boat. I will purchase a backup second one when Amazon puts it on sale again.

Now there is one negative to mention. After using it quite a few times I have noticed the cables getting skinned from the way it winds them up. I have found you must take extra care to wind it up just right to prevent this from happening.

      Update 09/12/2013

Today Amazon put this on sale again so true to my word I have purchased a second one.

I also wanted to add to my review I recently had to replace both batteries on my Truck because they both had dead cells. This is even more testament to this Jumper because it was still able to get my truck running even with two bad batteries that were low on water also.

      Update 07/16/2014

I now have two of these & they are both working GREAT!

      Update 04/15/2016

Well we lost our home to a total loss fire along with the certificates for battery replacement so not sure how long before batteries give up.

So far I have used multiple JNC660 to jump my vehicles, boat, rv as well as people not prepared in parking lots. A few have been so impressed they said they would be purchasing one like mine.

All I can say is all 3 are going strong and still dependable which is all that matters.

I purchase this exact jump box over 15 years ago from the Snap-On Truck at work and used it professionally as well for personal use (but please note I race variety of vehicles so it was used almost every weekend at races) and it was EXCELLENT!!! Absolutely worth the money! Superb battery life and will jumpstart big blocks and diesels multiple times before needing recharge. After 15 years of heavy use it began to age and lost its ability to charge up over 50% (guessing) because due to my use and abuse the gauge broke at some point but it wasn’t important to me whatsoever due to it’s incredible reliability. So I sadly had to find its replacement but I was blown away that Amazon actually carried the identical model. I will say that it is much heavier than all of the extremely small/petite designed jump boxes that are the new thing but its weight and bulkiness are absolutely worth it. Sometimes size does matter!! :-)

I never do reviews for products but I had to come back and leave one for this. I have an older tractor that I left the lights on one night and shot the battery, this jump box cranked it NO problem.

I also have an old project truck that has had a dead battery for over a year, we moved to a new house and I had it towed here. After we were settled in I wanted to move the truck so I gave it a shot with the jump box, fired right up!

If you’re looking for a reliable, durable jump box that’s easy to use, I highly recommend this one. It will always have a spot in my shop!

Real deal. I'm canadian and in cold weather on call towtruck and car carrier...This is best booster pac so far I've had. No other booster pack has been as good as this one. After one year of use in cold and hot weather . Dropped. Tried starting cars with bad electrical issues after crashes etc- it still holds full charge everytime I use it. Never been charged. Just boost vehicle and leave it hooked up to vehicle while I load vehicle onto truck then unhook and toss on floor of my towtruck til next time. Never let me down. Starts diesel bobcats and machinery and diesel buses with ease . Been in business for 15 years or so. Nothing beats this
