Cheapest winder but it will break.
3 out of 5 stars
Cheapest winder but it will break.
For under a few dollars I figured I would use it a few times and toss it if it was bad. Well it is not that great. The winder has a fundamental design flaw. They used a thin plastic insert to take all the torque at the rotational interface. No bueno. I used it once and I noticed that as I was using the tool to lift the pins the insert was coming out. I pushed it in with my thumb. Then when I was winding my last string it just simply fell apart.I'm going to give you free engineering help Mr. Dunlop.I went to my basement and found a bolt with a head that would just fit in the winder. I drilled out the broken piece from the handle with a hand drill. Added a dab of glue (I had the red one handy but the blue stuff would be fine too). Last, I tightened it just enough so I could still twirl the winder with one hand. Took me ten minutes.Hope this helps. I'll report out as I continue to use the upgraded version with metal instead of plastic for the insert.UPDATE: Used it four times this week (8/13/2020) while adjusting the action on a guitar. No issues at all and it is working fine. The screw held up fine and it never backed out.

I loved that the product copy described this as an alto saxophone case. I trusted that the price and the picture were telling the truth and it was a string winder. I bought this to replace one like it that broke after 20 years or so of regular use. It works better than winders that cost 3 times as much. Aside from cranking, it is a better pin puller than most others.

I would have preferred the transparent "squirt gun" colored plastic but black is fine with me.

I bought this to replace my 15-20 year old string winder that was starting to finally break. I miss the days when these were $1.00. Either way, 5 stars.

    Do not buy this stringwinder!

It will break before you can restring a full pack of strings. Mine only wound 3 strings before it broke.

Utter piece of crap. They should be ashamed of even selling this piece of garbage.

I've been using peg winders for decades. This one is cheap and easy to use. it seems sturdy enough, but it is made of plastic so I'm not sure how durable it is. Considering how inexpensive it is, even if i need to replace it every few months it would be worth the price. it might be a good idea to get a spare so there is always one on hand when you need it. For me it's a must have because it reduces strain on my right wrist which is arthritic... much better than all the repetitive twisting involved with replacing a full set of strings. I would recommend it to anyone who plays a lot or has multiple guitars and needs to replace strings often.

Fa quello che deve fare, cioè velocizzare le operazioni di cambio corde sulla chitarra. E' uno di quegli accessori di cui si pensa di poter fare a meno finché non lo si usa. A quel punto diventa necessario.
