Works Great on my Tandem Bike

Works Great on my Tandem Bike
My 20 year old tandem bike has Shimano components. It needed a new chain between the driver and passenger cranks. So I purchased two KMC Z8.1 chains and combined them to create the long length that this big bike needs.A chain breaker easily cut one chain to a shorter length. It was combined with the full length chain so that only one quick link was necessary. The bike is back on the road. Thanks to KMC.

Excellent Bike chain, totally worked for my bike. The first one I bought I made couple of mistakes so I ended up buying another one and that worked out. While it is not advised when cutting a chain to reuse the riveting pins that are already on the chain. I have reused the rivets and have had no problems at all. What I do is before reinstalling another part of the chain, I put a drop of oil on the chain rivet, clean up the excess, then using a chain tool I carefully replace and push the rivet back in place making sure the rivet makes contact. Then after the rivet is in place I give the chain a slight bend and then I check that it's rolling like all the others. If there's any advice I will give to others buy chain rivets when reconnecting a chain, never reuse the rivets already on the chain unless you have to, but like I said I have had no problems with the method I used. But I agree with the manufacturer and other mechanics that it would be wise that you replace the chain or just make sure you buy new connecting rivets that work for your chain when reconnecting links.
One thing I have learned is that when installing and threading a chain into the rear derailleur is when pulling the derailleur down put the chain over the top pulley wheel then under the bottom pulley wheel. What I love about this chain is the master link or quick link that comes with. They connect easily and it's even easier if you have master link pilers I used Park Tool MLP 1.2 Tool. That makes the job so much easier and faster than using needle nose pliers or your hands. Chain installment can be confusing, usually it can be guess work. KMC unlike some manufacturers actually tells you the narrowness of the chain on the packaging. Also if your using products from the same manufacturer like Shimano that manufacturer will tell you to use only Shimano products, well you can but it's also possible to Mix and match products. I highly recommend this chain, it's easy to use and install and very affordable.Highly recommended!

I have 3x7 setup on my mountain bike And I had to remove 4 links, however, this was pretty easy to install and so far it's been riding like a charm. A comes pre lubricated when you get it out of the Box and so it's not necessary to add any to it unless you feel like removing the factory oil and then adding your own by bike lubricant. I will add that if you do not take off the lubricant and your cassettes are dirty then expect your shin or save your cap to have a lotta black deposit because of the viscosity of the oil and the grime on your cassettes. Otherwise the bike chain works perfectly.

Will update if I see any accelerated degradation

KMC makes very durable and long-lasting chains. I have put tens of thousands of miles on them and never had one break while cycling. These chains do stretch and wear over time, but with proper care they will function well for 2000-3000 miles. Amazon has great prices on KMC chains, so I keep a few in my parts inventory at all times.

I put a fair number of miles on my bike and typically change them at 3K miles so as not to wear out the other components. I don't want to spend too much for a chain and these KMC's seem to last as long as more expensive brands.

I had this chain installed stock on my Tonino Lamborghini Motagna mountain bicycle. I have absolutely no complaints. The chain was absolutely excellent all the way through. I put over 4,000 miles into it. I'm talking about HARD riding, high gear, low cadence cycling. Tugging very hard. I had pegs on my mountain bike (Yes, it's unheard of, but I did it) and I used to ride my cousin around on trips of 20 miles and up, going up hills, and ripping it up. The chain never ever gave up.

I had to replace it after I bottomed out into a pot hole while racing down a hill at 37 MPH. The spokes caught the derailleur and ripped it clean off snapping the dropout hanger like a twig. I had to replace the derailleur and the hanger. The chain never broke though. It never even warped in the slightest.

I decided to change it because I didn't want to clean it when I replaced the rest of the drivetrain and I had already put in so many miles...

Of course, I replaced it with this same one.

Do keep in mind, you might want to change the chain more frequently than I did and be very observant of chain "stretch." I had to replace my SRAM cassette because the old chain "stretched" and the cogs on the shredded cassette weren't snugging with the new chain so I had to replace the SRAM cassette as well...

If you replace your chain and feel skipping when you tug, chances are there is a stiff link, or like in my case, the cassette is worn and you'll need to replace it as well.

First new chain I've installed so I had no idea if it would work or what I was doing. The key thing to pay attention to is 3/32 vs. 1/8in side plates. I was able to confirm that my original equipment chain was 1/2in x 3/32in links. Next problem was trying to figure out how long of a chain. So I focused on getting a chain overly long with the 1/2 x 3/32 links and the Oumers Universal Chain tool. Bottom line is that this chain is working fine so far after I cut it to length and used the included closure link. Park Tool has a great video on how to size the chain and there are videos about how to install the closure link without a tool.
