      Off brand tapes frequently have issues with not being evenly sticky, turns yellow or dries out then loses it's usefulness.
      Scotch Magic tape is evenly sticky so it does it's job on all the surfaces it's on. It also "Magically" leaves no shine and blends with the paper so you don't lose visibility on the areas you tape. I haven't seen it yellow or dry out with age, so the tape continues to do it's job. What more can you ask for. It is well worth the price difference!
