It was shipped very well and I was very happy to receive it. Thank you!

I ran across this CD on Amazon.com and could not order it fast enough especially after reading the reviews. While listening to Karen's voice again on the "new" songs, there were a couple of brief flashes that it truly was "yesterday once more"- that she hasn't left us at all, that Richard is still creating new songs and arrangements, and Karen is still singing them.
8 of the 15 songs were taken from various Carpenters' TV specials and television appearances. I assume some of the critical reviewers who feel these "TV tunes" don't work 100% for them probably didn't see the TV specials (which I can remember in my mind while listening to them). These songs and arrangements also had a visual intent to them as they were not created to be "studio songs." Example; "Dizzy Fingers," which I remember had Richard in tux bouncing from about 4 or 5 pianos to create this piece. It's a shame, especially since this past February was the 20th anniversary of Karen's passing, that ABC-TV didn't think to do a composite of the Carpenters TV specials for the long-time fans and newer fans to see and/or appreciate again.
My two preferred songs on the album are the two "demo" songs of two of the Carpenters' contemporaries, The Mammas & the Pappas ("California Dreamin' ") and The Beatles ("Nowhere Man"). Richard and Karen's slower ballad version of The Beatles' "Nowhere Man" alone makes the purchase of this CD worth it. Both of these songs were cut in Joe Osborn's studio garage with his record label "Magic Lamp." Even at her young age, Karen's voice was simply incredible and Richard's talent of arrangement (especially with the strings) in "Nowhere Man" is mesmorizing. I find myself playing this tune over and over again. "Nowhere Man" makes me think of the duo's ballad version of "Ticket To Ride." A wonderful Carpenter project would have been an album of Richard and Karen taking a selection of Beatles' songs and putting the "Carpenters brand" on them. I can only say it would been a creative and satisifying project.
If, as Richard states in the booklet, the rest of these 4-track tapes were destroyed in a fire in Joe Osborn's house in 1974, the fans have lost a lot more of Richard's incredible arrangements and Karen's one-of-a-kind voice. Thank you, Richard, at least for these "snipets." As a long-time Carpenters' fan of BOTH you and Karen, this CD truly again makes me wonder in awe and appreciation of the contribution the two of you made to music together.
This is a CD definitely worthy of the Carpenters' legacy. Carpenters fans- you will NOT be disappointed with this collection of songs!

Karen Carpenter's voice was truly remarkable, but this record reminds us that Richard spent alot of time making it sound perfect on the duo's released material. These outtakes, demos and tv production songs don't quite reach the "perfection" we're used to on their records.
That being said, there are heavenly moments on this disc. It's amazing that she could sing a "demo" and sound so good. Also,it's nice to have a whole disc of virtually unknown material. Richard's marketing strategy over the years has been a little annoying....one "new" released melody sung by Karen, released with a new compilation of hits that most fans already owned. For those of you who resisted buying a whole CD (IE Interpretations)for the one new song, this disc will satisfy you with rare material that you probably haven't heard before.
Another surprise, both good and bad...There are a few moments in which Richard sings with Karen ( not as backup, but as a true duet partner-You're just in love, for example) and this is really nice to hear. However, he seems to have a slight lisp at times which reminds us why Karen was the lead vocalist.
All criticism aside, this is a must have for true Carpenter fans and I don't regret buying it.

That phrase is from the introduction to this CD, written by Richard Carpenter in 2004 when it was released. He also states, " the songs span the years 1967-1980 and are from a variety of media, demos, outtakes, live performances, and TV specials."
I love this CD, any Carpenter fan will. The notes from Richard on each selection are very helpful in explaining the sources and years.
Two of my favorite songs are "Nowhere Man", a Beatles hit, and "California Dreamin", a Mama and Papas hit. Both are from demos, circa 1967, from a garage studio. Karen was only 17 and in Richard's words," She is a marvel. In "California Dreamin",she jumps an octave, from chest voice, to head voice on the letter ( and note) "A" in the opening."
Another song I liked was the old standard,"You're Just In Love, written by Irving Berlin for the musical,"Call Me Madam." It was from the Carpenters' special,"Music,Music,Music", that was aired on May 16,1980. John Davidson sang the duet with Karen on the show but on the CD, Richard sings this.
I would love to have all the Carpenters' specials but only have the one they guest starred on. That was the "Perry Como Christmas Show" on which the Carpenters, Peggy Fleming, and Rich Little are Perry's guests. This was from Dec. 1974 and is available from Amazon. I highly recommend this for Carpenter fans. There is a track on this cD from the Como show. Karen and Perry sing each others' hits.Karen sings "Magic Moments", "Catch A Falling Star". "Don"t Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes", and "It's Impossible", which Karen did beautifully. This has become one of my favorite Carpenter recordings and I have many. This was a present to myself for Christmas and I am glad I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ein Album, das man ruhig öfters hören sollte!
Reviewed in Germany on September 4, 2021

Excellent compilation of songs not often heard by the Carpenters. Karen had such a beautiful voice that was taken from us much too soon. Tragic is the only word.

Easy Listening CD Featuring The Evergreen Carpenters Karen & Richard. The 14 Track CD comprises Tracks with previously unreleased recordings including The Haunting Nowhere Man first Heard on The Terry Wogan show. The CD aptly Titled As Time Goes By Thanks To Richard Carpenter finds Tracks from The vaults of unreleased material. The album features legendary crooner Perry Como as The Duo preform a melody of His Greatest Hits likewise Como Gives us a melody of Karen & Richards Hits in is own unique style. At The Time Karen & Richard featured a lot on The Perry Como show and The Tracks would most possible have been lifted from These shows. The Album as a classic musical feel To it as classic songs I Got Rhythm & Your Just In Love are Given The Carpenters Treatment as only Karen can Deliver. And Karen's rendition of The Rainbow Connection one of The best Tracks on The Album will bring a Tear To The eye. Richard is not overlooked as he gives us His own Treatment To The Star Wars & Close Encounters Themes while These may seem a little out of place with The rest of The Album They Do offer a fresh style To These classic Themes. The Final Tracks feature Karen & Richard Treating us To a melody of some of Their best loved songs and your favourite Carpenters song will be amongst Them. The CD cover and inlay card feature some nice photos of Karen & Richard and I simply can't recommend This CD Album enough . Karen may no longer be with us But Richard's release of This Album will ensure The Magic of The Carpenters and The voice of Karen Carpenter will live on for future Generations To enjoy.
