- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2012album The Beyondness of Things from three years earlier. That this is John Barry's
final album adds even more poignancy to this music as one listens to it. Is it possible that we lost this musical legend only last year? I have listened to Barry's
music since I was a kid and now that I am now fifty this music seems to touch a really personal chord and these two albums I will treasure to the end of my days.
Its interesting to note how his musical voice has matured over the years. Like many
I was brought up on his great jazzy 007 scores for the Connery films and Born Free and The Lion in Winter, and so on. But it is a composer's nature to evolve and Barry
has certainly matured into a melodist who delves in deeper meanings. While I admit that I do miss the excitement of his swaggering music from way back I do feel good when I hear the direction his music has taken.
Barry was always a great melodist, that was one of his strengths, but one quality of his music I've always loved---and its most apparent here----is its purity, its unabashed glory in emotional expression through music. While some reviewers have said that it may take a few listens to really enjoy it I loved it right away. Listening to his music is like a visit from a good old friend. His long spanned melodies with its trademark strings and brass combinations may seem predictable to his film music fans but as a lover of good music (in whatever form)this music is like a breath of fresh air from the banalities and vulgarity of today's music.
Each selection is a veritable tone poem and the secret here is to just let the music wash over you. I enjoyed all the tracks here equally and I can't really choose
one over the other as a standout. It seemed inevitable to me that Barry would eventually give up scoring films (I do wish he could have done just one more Bond film) since it seems filmmakers no longer want emotion in their music anymore and, to be obvious, Barry had made his mark and he did what he wanted to do. No film images here just really beautiful music to enjoy for the sheer pleaure of it.
Eternal Echoes is an outstanding album by one of our best composers and that, I think, is putting it simply and honestly-----like his music.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2018I absolutely love this album. Being an Amazon buyer, I got to hear a few minutes of the songs in the album and I said, "I've got to have this one too". I put it in the same category as the Beyondness. It reminds me of Hugo Van Lawick. Thank you Amazon. It relaxes me.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2013This is a wonderful flowing musical trip that has echoes of so many of John Barry's great compositions, the music has so much atmosphere and evokes film soundtracks that fade in and out of various tracks that find you frantically searching through all the films that Barry scored to enjoy all over again. Although this CD isn't from any specific soundtrack, the composer is dipping into a vast reservoir from his musical compositions, that extend the beauty of his 'eternal echoes' bravo!.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2021Decent and relaxing.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2009What can I say except this is pure John Barry!! If you want relaxing and yet happy music this is your CD. His music gives you a sense of space and fun at the same time. You can't but hear James Bond music in almost every track and yet each song is new and refreshing. I don't know how John Barry does it but I'm so glad he does. For a very good listen Eternal Echoes is a wonderful CD for reading, relaxing, dinner etc... Enjoy!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2008Out of Africa, Somewhere in Time and now this one are my three most favorites of John Barry! These three CD's take me somewhere that few composers/artists can take me emotionally/spiritually. There are truly no words that I can write that can adequately describe how this artist can move people through his music. Treat yourself to a beautiful composition of work!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2018Sounds like it could be movie scores. But it is really nice music. Worth it.
