After Bob Marley, I will listen and dance to Culture all day and night. The message is strong.

I had put down this album for a few years and recently picked it up again and was surprised at how much I had slept on this!!

I have to disagree with "Sean" on this one. This album is certainly not unbearable - far from it. At its worst, the lyrics are banal and the music edges dangerously close to outright cheesy (see "Mr. Music"). My theory on this is that the rhythms have moved from the drum kit into the drum machine.

But a few of the songs on this album would deserve consideration on a "Best of" disc. "Selector" hops along with Joseph Hill and an unknown guest celebrating the joy of the sound system. "Life", "Sufferer", and "Still Rest My Heart" all manage to touch on themes discussed in reggae music with freshness.

So even though there are better Culture albums out there, please don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Geez!

If you enjoy great reggae, this CD delivers.
Dealing with topics like truth and justice,
societies inability to comprehend a different way of life,
the corrupt and painfully cruel path that life can take, the final days on earth,
Slavery, rape and war, it's all right here.
There's a couple of lighter tunes, that complement the heaviness of the rest.
Mr. Music is basically what Joseph Hill does/did for a living...He sings for the blind man too.
The drum machine was widely used in Jamaican music at the time this was released,
and it sounds appropriate on the songs that it's used.
Selector does not feature an "unknown" guest, it's the other members of Culture.
Culture is/was one group who consistently released quality, supercharged, roots music.
To continually compare new releases to old is irrelevant, you take each one as a separate
entity, and listen with fresh ears.

Culture is one of the best Reggae bands and Three sides to my story is among the best Reggae CD's. I love every song in this album but obviously I have to have my favourites. The songs Be honest and Babylon can't study are my favourites but don't get me wrong all songs are outstanding.here's a qoute from one of the songs,"Please be honest to yourself".Like all the reviews I wrote, send me an E-mail if you buy this CD and find that it's not what I said it is. Peace,Love,Honesty and Respect.

I won't spend much time on this album because I can't bear to listen to it again to make this review.
There are so many other Culture lps to be had that this one, while it hs a good track or 2 on it, should be ignored. I have no idea what happened during the making of this album, but it never gets the flow that most of their excellent lps, like the classic "Two Sevens Clash" or "Africa Stand Alone" has.
the 2 lps I mentioned should be siught after 1st, then spread out and see where your tastes lie. This lp is one of very few that I do not recommend for anyone.

Oh mfowethu eG-town, yes I hear that you love Culture, but this is by far not their best work. If you want to hear some heavy sounds from Culture, check out "Harder Than the Rest", "Trod On" or "17 Dub Shots". "Two Sevens Clash" is also crucial but not as consistently good. Shap bhuti wami.

Eh make no mistake this is culture at his best, a lyrical genius telling a story on every track to the unmistakable rhythm which is culture. If you follow culture from the 70’s then you will appreciate this album as an evolutionary piece that is refined and make you want to sing and dance along. Long live culture music nothing less than 5 star!
