- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2014I've been looking for a book like this one. And honestly there is not none like this. I mean they drive you from the beginning and start teaching you all the Chinese's stuff. I'm a self student and i am learning mandarin faster than i can imagine. I totally recommended to buy not just the book, also the workbook. I am dealing to buy the whole series of it ( just to avoid if the sold out, which i don't doubt it if happen).
You wont regret, just buy it.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2020I know most textbooks are used but it’s in really poor condition it shouldn’t even be sold here and just found out the CD was broken in half. Paid $30 dollars for it. Not worth it.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2009I have been looking for a Chinese textbook for little children. The book I bought from Amazon.com is just the one I am look for. It gos with cartoon pictures and dialogue and attract childcare's attention.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2018Our Mandarin teacher chose these for teaching Mandarin in our small Christian high school. They are good books, colorful, engaging, and start with the basics. There are a few factors though that are bothersome. There is a book and a workbook, so one would think that you write in the workbook and it is expendable, while the book is something that could be reused. In truth though there are exercises asking for you to match the phrases with the words, or write the pinyin version , etc. So to reuse the book for another student will be like reusing a workbook. The other issue would be that if you didn't have a teacher who knew Mandarin, the CD would probably cause a great deal of confusion. All directions, and exercise numbers are in Mandarin, so literally for an exercise where you need to figure out what number they are saying they introduce each problem with the mandarin number. Literally the CD says something like, 1. eight, 2 nine, 3 five, etc all in Mandarin. Since you have only just been introduce to the numbers in this lesson for the first time, it is confusing for beginners. I also don't see much of a point in the pages showing parts of the Mandarin characters. I've been auditing the class myself and our teacher has skipped over those pages, and is using a different book to introduce some of the basic signs that are used in many mandarin words. Lastly, this isn't a good book if you are trying to learn without a mandarin speaker. I would recommend the audiobook "Learn Mandarin Chinese with Paul Noble". i have many other audiobooks for learning but really feel hisis the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Buch
Wir verwenden das Text- und das Workbook im Chinesisch Unterricht mit einer Lehrerin, es würde sich aber auch für das Einzelstudium eignen, da eine CD beim Textbook dabei ist!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book. The CD is very useful
A good book. The CD is very useful. Can be used as a self study book or as a textbook for use in the classroom. Quite a few speaking activities and regular recycling of previous items. Not convinced about the usefulness of the pronunciation section. Another minor criticism is that it's hard to find the meaning of a word unless you're studying the unit in which it's introduced. By and large, a very solid book, which gives you confidence in making basic conversation.
