Personality Plus Paperback – January 1, 2008

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,907 ratings

Personality Plus is a best-selling self-help book written by Florence Littauer. The book starts off by introducing the four basic temperaments that people can be divided into – Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholy, and Phlegmatic. Each personality type comes with its own strengths and weaknesses, and the differences are explained in detail by the author. The book then offers its readers a personality test, so that they can understand their own personality and build on their strengths when interacting with others. It also helps its readers understand the personality types of others, so that they can get along with ‘difficult’ people too, by catering to their emotional needs. The book draws examples from the author’s own experiences, and highlights the different needs that people have, so that readers can understand themselves, and others around them, better.

This is truly my absolute most favorite book. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've read it myself or gifted it to friends. It is written in a lighthearted and entertaining way that makes it enjoyable to read at night before going to bed. Mrs. Littauer divides the personalities into 4 groups and has a fantastic way of communicating their traits, strengths, and weaknesses. It basically delivers the same message as the Myers-Briggs but without all the complicated E, S, T, I, etc. It provides wonderful insight into your own personality traits and is wonderful at helping you see how and why other people do what they do and say what they say. For example, I am a strong 'melancholy' personality type and like to have things right and in order (even if it's my own sense of order). I literally laughed out loud when she gave an example of her husband, also a melancholy, instructing her on how to put the toilet paper on correctly. She didn't know it could be incorrect. I do the exact same thing, even in public places or other people's homes. I figure if they don't notice it's not on incorrectly, then they won't notice or care that I've corrected it. Hysterical. Also have a friend who can come across as a bit brusk or aggressive. This booked helped both of us see that her desire to get things accomplished can sometimes come across wrong. It's great it helping you tailor your message to the personality type of the recipient. You'll find yourself 'personality typing' all of your friends, etc. It helps explain a lot of the communication problems between people. This book is truly absolutely fantastic! Also, highly recommend 5 Love Languages to go along with it.

A friendly book, the kind of book that we go through thinking of people we wish we could have them read it so that it may help them discover and learn what we are learning upon the flipping of each page!
This is the best description that can be given to Personality Plus, “A life changer”, it will give you so much insight on who you are, what are your strengths, how you can invest in them, what are your weakness and how you can conquer them. Not only this, but it is a manual of people that will help you understand, cope with, appreciate and tolerate different temperaments.
On the first pages you will have a small test that you must do in order to identify your major temperament, the book identifies four major personalities (temperaments). The majority will have a high percentage on one specific trait and the rest will be distributed on the other three, as no one is 100% of one.
After doing the test you will start reading about the four temperaments, what they are, what differentiates them and their major traits. When the part in relation to my personality came up, I felt like I was reading about me, felt I was looking in the mirror and smiling to myself. Reading about my trait has been crucial in showing me where I have done well when during the years, I have been trying to work on improving and dealing with my strength and weaknesses, and where I can still do more to improve and how.
I am positive this will be a vital tool in the hands of those who have not yet started to work on themselves. For those who need to understand who and what they are, what are their major strengths and weaknesses, and if they need to improve, then where and how.
Personality plus will make many individuals; couples and families understand each other and blend to live if not happily at least in peace and harmony.
It is a manual to be referred to constantly and this is what I plan to do.

In this wonderful book you will get a great insight into your personality. The author breaks down personality types into four groups: Popular Sanguine, Perfect Melancholy, Powerful Choleric, and Peaceful Phlegmatic. Wow! That's a mouthful isn't it? Don't let those titles scare you off, this book is easy to understand and has a lot of insight.

Inside you are able to take a simple test that will help you to find out which group you belong to.
That was a lot of fun and I shared this with numerous people, we did it as a group. It was amazing how acurate it turned out to be with each person.

The author explains each personalities strengths, and weaknesses, tells what type of a parent they are, and how they are as a friend. It was amazing how acurate our results turned out.
But it doesn't stop there. Our author takes you further and helps you to know ways to better understand each personality type, work with them, and be productive one with another. The information also helps you to understand yourself.

This is a great book, easy to read, understand, and just down right enjoyable. I highly recommend it. What type are you? Find out inside this outstanding read. I Loved this book...it was educational and a really fun read.

1.0 out of 5 stars I thought it was scientific
Reviewed in Brazil on August 30, 2020
I managed to put up with all the bible citations throughout the book, but the last chapter really threw me off. On top of that, I thought this book was based on science but there are no references to studies, just a collection of anecdotes that happened to the author in her personal/professional life. Some of these are so perfectly fitting to the point being made, that I wonder if they are real at all. The author warns us that Popular Sanguines (her temperament, as she explains) have a tendency to embellish things. I suspect that happened throughout the book.

Fantastic in every way. So, so, so, good. Christian author too. Gosh this book will really help to understand "everyone" in your family, at work and life. Such a HUGE help ! Since buying this book I've also bought all of Florence Littauer's other books plus I've bought multiple copies of THIS book to lend to others, who don't understand their children, spouses, bosses or even themselves. Once you buy it - hang on to it. Pass it on to your grown kids. Invaluable resource . A real keeper
