- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2020Comprehensive print collection. The size of the book is large so the content is a delight if you are into studying minor details.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2020I adore this art book. Beautiful colors, interesting text. It is a real treat to have such large and striking prints. Have admired all of the illustrations, though have yet to complete reading the text. Very interesting so far, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive book
Excellent quality of the prints. Very good texts.
A must if you want to improve your knowledge of Japanese arts on the 18th century.
The chapter on the influence of Hiroshige is short. There many other artists that should have been mentioned.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for devotees of this absolute master of Japanese art.
This is the most wonderful book, worth EVERY penny of its admittedly significant price. The book is printed in the Japanese way with pages concertina-ed and then edge sewn on one side. The colour printing is quite superb, and the large format (check out the dimension!) means that full page reproductions really give a level of detail that is, in my experience, impossible to find elsewhere. Of course not all images are shown on a full page, but a significant number are.
The chronological approach and the learned but always lucid commentary on Hiroshige's development in a range of media, makes this a perfect volume for those who want analysis, information and perfect reproductions.
My only complaint, and it IS a fairly serious one, is that some images are shown across a double page: this is wonderful for the outer thirds, but for the central section there is the problem of a less than perfectly flat image and the inevitable central 'gutter'. But as this affects relatively few images this in no way silences my enthusiasm for and recommendation of this magnificent volume as a whole.
