Tom Clancy's The Division: Broken Dawn Paperback – March 26, 2019
Purchase options and add-ons
Months after the outbreak of a devastating global pandemic that started in New York City on Black Friday, traces of rebirth are spreading across the United States. Spring has come to the nation, and with it a glimmer of hope as civilians band together in settlements, trying to carve out a better life.
Amidst a ruined government, a shattered infrastructure, and an eroding civilization, The Division – an autonomous unit of sleeper agents activated when all else fails – is all that protects the people from predators who would harm them, scavengers who would take from them, and oppressors who would exploit them.
Aurelio Diaz is one of those agents. A man of great honor, he is on the hunt for one of his colleagues who inexplicably abandoned his duty and caused the death of multiple civilians. This trail leads him to April Kelleher, a resourceful civilian who traveled out of New York into a troubled American Midwest. There, she hopes to understand why her husband was murdered and if an antiviral to the deadly disease exists.
Together, Agent Diaz and April soon uncover an imminent threat to the future of the country. They must act to preserve civilization’s last hope to stop a new virus and save itself from a final collapse.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2024Really exciting adventure in a world that is compelling to read about. Got into it because I enjoyed the games so much. The action was quite well described and paced. The characters were fleshed-out and interacted realistically with each other. It's better written than the trilogy of other Division novels (Recruited, Compromised, Hunted). Those novels are kinda clumsy with the dialogue-something about the way he uses idioms in a very beginner-level, explanatory way. Like the audience is unfamiliar with the rhythm of normal human conversation, so the author feels the need to take it slow so we can keep up or something. Broken Dawn is written in a much more "adult" way, assumes you are smarter than the other books do. New York Collapse, the "prequel" to this, has been out of print and I went into this without reading that (but I did have the context of the actual games), and I had no problem following along. I have it now, and tbh it's cool reading it second.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2024Great story! If you are a fan of the Division games you really should read this. This book spent time on my old stomping grounds of Lock Haven, State College, Clearfield, etc. The story is told from multiple characters perspectives ,which creates a rich environment that draws you into the world, especially since Covid.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2020I like this book. It was a good fast paced action thriller. If you take it in the context of TD2 it really brings out some details and nuances and sheds some light on places other than the games' geographic locations. One example of this is the foreshadowing of the black tusk, or the part about the castle and their issues with the True Sons. Reading this has made me want to go play TD2 base campaign again to see where else the stories intersect.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2019Author Alex Irvine delivers an exceptional page turner with characters from Tom Clancy's The Division (Massive Entertainment) (Ubisoft). It is with great hope that he continues to write more books regarding this awesome franchise. If you like The Division video games, and are interested in reading some of the back story and side stories that go with the game, then this book will keep you engaged. The book primarily brings greater context to what is happening in the game in a real life scenario/depiction. There are a few good action chapters/scenes, but that is not the focus here. I think there is a lot more that can be developed with the novel series, so it is my hope that Ubisoft authorizes more franchise novels. Besides the hope for more, I highly recommend this book for anyone who is a Tom Clancy's: The Division fan and likes everything that has to do with the game. The author gives multiple perspectives of what is taking place in this "reality", and ties some of the events from both games, but in a way that expands more of the plot. What I like about the books most of all, is that it transports you into what I would call The Division universe, to make the game more real so to speak. It's definitely a nice addition to the game, but most importantly it develops the plot as a post apocalyptic thriller, and unique in its own right.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2020If you are Division 1 or 2 fan t ihen I highly recommend this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will say it is not the best book I have read but the way it bridges the two games stories is pretty awesome. I alson enjoyed the way it expands on the story and the surrounding citiea and towns.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2019I've loved the Division and the story behind the franchise. This book captures that world perfectly. Could have been a bit more fast-paced, but otherwise a very entertaining story that expands on some of the ECHO tidbits from the first Division and links it to some of the BSAV storyline from Division 2. I hope that this is just the first of many Divison books since it is probably the coolest post-apoc sci-fi world ever conceived.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2021I am a fan of the Division games. And I thought the book was going well until Chapter 9. The character takes the MAGAZINE out of a shotgun (Benelli Super 90 series) to check it. There are some shotguns with a magazine (several appear in the games) but the Super 90 is not one of them.
In a "realistic" world this is pretty bad (and easy to avoid with Google). It may seem picky to some but for me this is jarring and a bit of a break when reading.
Please fix this as otherwise I like the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good reading
Good reading!
Expand the story of Heather. Keeps the same key points as they are presented in the game.
High quality cover, little bit on cheap the paper, but it's like an old news paper, easy to read on a in-door light.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read - the sequel to the previous installment
This is more of a novel than the 'alternate reality book' that the story was told through previously, but it still maintains a significant and continuous story. I highly recommend reading the first book, 'New York Collapse' by the same author, before this one; however it is not technically necessary to have read it first, as this book uses recaps to tell the story. Similar to how 'New York Collapse' is a prequel to The Division 1, this book is a prequel to The Division 2.
