Purchase options and add-ons
Be Relentless!
Hamish Brewer (aka the Tattooed Skateboarding Principal) grew up in a home disrupted by poverty, addiction, and family dysfunction. He understands the feelings of fear, lostness, and desperation that overwhelm too many children today—because that was his life. That experience is what drives him to work relentlessly to empower people living in the toughest areas to envision and create a better future for themselves.
Disrupt the norm. That is the challenge Hamish, a Nationally Distinguished Principal, calls educators, students, families, and communities to accept. And as he authentically shares his life experiences and adventures in this book, you, too, will be inspired to . . .
- Believe that something bigger and better is possible.
- Pursue your best, whatever it takes.
- Transform your school.
- Become the educator you always dreamed of being.
- Leave a legacy that pushes others to achieve their best!
Relentless is more than a motto. It’s a mission of total passion and purpose. And it’s the only way to win at work and at life.
Are you ready to take your life and work to the next level?Be Relentless!
“Hamish proves that passion, love, and thinking outside the box have the power to change children’s lives.” —Michael Ien Cohen, director and producer, Humanity Stoked
“This book is no gimmick; it is a way of being. It is real. We must fight for all children. We must be all in. So, roll up your sleeves. Show those tattoos. And be Relentless.” —John P. Broome, PhD, associate professor of education, University of Mary Washington
“In Relentless, Hamish Brewer shares a story of hope, love, and inspiration for making schools better. It is one part memoir, one part school-improvement guide, and a whole lot of motivation.” —Beth Houf, principal, Fulton Middle School; coauthor, Lead Like a PIRATE

Principal, Fulton Middle School, Fulton, Missouri
Co-Author, Lead Like a PIRATE: Make School Amazing for Students and Staff
"Ultimately, Relentless is not a book about tattoos and skateboards; it is a book about courage -- courage to be yourself and courage to do whatever it takes to make a difference for your colleagues and for your students. Hamish Brewer has found his passion and his purpose... and he pursues it with reckless abandon. In this book, Brewer throws down the challenge for us to do the same. It is a challenge we all must answer."
Danny Steele
Educator, Author, Speaker
"Hamish Brewer is exactly what's needed in education today. Hamish Brewer is breaking the stereotype. Getting results, and relentlessly fighting for all kids."
Paul Felder
UFC Fighter, Sports Analyst
"Relentless by Hamish Brewer is the complete literary package, period.Having had the opportunity to visit Hamish in person at his school and see the Relentless mission and drive in person, and now reading about it all gets me pumped up and psyched to be even more awesome for kids. Hamish lays out the groundwork for educators to be themselves, to live the life and be the educator they want to be, not what you think society wants you to be. There's only one Hamish, but after reading Relentless there is no reason why you can't take the strategies, ideas, energy, mojo and his no stop and no quit attitude to your school. Buckle up, you're about to go on an amazing educational and life journey that you won't soon forget!"

"Hamish proves that passion, love, and thinking outside the box has the power to change children's lives. He is a personal hero of mine, an educator I desperately needed in my younger life and his interview was one of the most emotionally moving parts of the film."

- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2020This book was recommended to me by an administrator. I was surprised at some of language housed in the text. I don’t typically find such words in my daily conversations.
Even so, I will say this: the text was well written. It was easy to follow. The text unfolded nicely.
Also, it was delightful to get to know Mr. Brewer. His story is certainly worth reading. And his story is worth sharing. A diamond in the rough. An admirable man. I don’t agree with everything he says. But he sure is someone I’d listen to. His points are spot on. His message is timely.
I trust that his unconventional methods are inspiring others to go their own course. Who wants people who fit into the mold? That is quite antiquated. We need more bold, fearless, innovative thinkers in the world. And that’s the message Mr. Brewer brings to the discussion.
Good on him. Keep up the good work.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2022I liked the book because it inspired me to do better in not only my job but life as a whole. I know the author personally. I consider him my friend. He's a kind caring man whom every single day tells his students he loves them. Then he shows them. If we had more people like him we could revolutionize the educational system for the better. I have been encouraged by him many times and found him to be a great inspiration. I look forward to what he does in the future. I also hope to work with him again soon.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2023Inspiring easy read. Saw this author speak. This is a great book for anyone. Reading about his journey as an educator Definitely inspires you to be the best at whatever you want to be. Not just for educators.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2023I bought this book 5 years ago and now most of the pages have parts highlighted, corners bent and little sticky notes sticking out of it. I call it my bible! I read it every summer right before we go back to school and it just gets me in the right mindset. If I’ve had a tough day with kids, I flick through and find certain pages that reset my mindset and make me ready for the next day! It has most definitely helped me become a better educator!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2020A great summer read for teachers looking for inspiration! Just wow! I would love to see and hear Mr. Brewer in action. I’m sure his staff and students have lots of wonderful stories to tell.
The book is not a step by step guide of how to teach, but an honest memoir of the difficulties of teaching and of life. I love the honesty for teachers - “If you’re waiting on someone with help, help ain’t coming — you are the cavalry...”
Excellent, quick read!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2024An amazing story amazing human being who cares about all the kids. It’s a great book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2019Hamish shares his story and boy, is it a doozy! He certainly took the scenic route into our profession and his current position as a principal in Virginia. It’s clear that the scenic route he took greatly impacts his role every day. His motto “Be Relentless” is more than just a catchphrase. It’s a lifestyle that he’s lived out his entire life, it appears. He shares the secret sauce behind multiple school transformations! The way he explains it makes it seem like it’s the most obvious thing in the world, but if it’s so obvious why are more schools not knocking it out of the park! Definitely grab a copy of Relentless to be "in the know"!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2022I am not one of those teachers that thinks every "teacher" book is amazing. A book has to be pretty interesting to keep me reading, and this one did not disappoint! It motivates and gives great ideas for how to make your kids love learning.

5.0 out of 5 stars
