- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2025Before you buy this book, there’s something you should know: it’s 99% about Diablo III. While the cover claims it covers Diablo, Diablo II, and even Diablo IV, these inclusions feel more like an afterthought, with only a few images and sketches. The Diablo and Diablo II content consists of a few small images from the game guides, while the Diablo IV section includes a brief one-page intro and only 24 pages of artwork.
If you’re looking for content about Diablo II: Resurrected, Diablo IV, or (good heavens) Diablo Immortal, you might want to check out The Art of Diablo: Volume II.
As someone who’s spent hundreds of demon-slaying hours in Diablo II and never been a big fan of Diablo III, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this artbook. Here’s why:
★★★★★ Art
The artists behind Diablo III’s iconic visuals include legendary names like Brom, Samwise Didier, Victor Lee, Josh Tallman, Trent Kaniuga, and Phroilan Gardner. While many other talented individuals contributed, these names appear most frequently throughout the book, leaving you stunned by their jaw-dropping talent. The art showcased here (and in the game itself) is nothing short of phenomenal.
★★★★★ Text
The text is another standout feature. The stories behind the creation of the Diablo universe and its games are captivating. The book includes plenty of quotes and firsthand accounts from the creators, immersing you in the creative process. Paired with the imagery, it gives a solid understanding of how the game came to life.
★★★★★ Book Design
While most artbooks follow a landscape format, the portrait orientation here feels like a perfect fit for Diablo’s imagery. Admittedly, double-page spreads can sometimes result in key elements being lost in the center crease, but this issue is rare.
The typography and layout deserve special mention. Gothic fonts with bloodstains complement the game’s dark setting perfectly, creating an immersive reading experience. Additionally, the book has no dust jacket, which won't wear over time, and the hardcover design is both durable and visually appealing.
★★★★★ Price
For a hardcover, 250-page book printed on high-quality paper, the $20 price tag is an absolute steal. If you’re on the hunt for an even better deal, pre-owned copies in good condition can be found for under $8 plus shipping (as of January 2025). At that price, it’s a no-brainer!
★★★★★ Overall Impressions
Even though I’m not a huge fan of Diablo III (playing through the campaign once was enough for me), I’m glad I had the chance to experience this collection of artistic masterpieces and read about the development process behind the Diablo universe.
If you’re a fan of Blizzard’s classics, including Diablo III, this book is a great choice. However, if your heart lies with Diablo II or its remastered version, or if you’re more interested in newer titles like Diablo IV, you might want to explore The Art of Diablo: Volume II instead.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2019This is a great book filled with amazing Diablo art! While a lot of the art can be found in other Blizzard books, this is a great edition for any collector or anyone who doesnt own the collectors edition art books (art of D3, art of reaper of souls). I love the larger scale printing, the book is well made with strong binding and thick glossy pages - the art looks incredible! Theres also a decent sized section on Diablo 4 concept art all of which is amazing and so well done, arguably worth the cost of the book on its own.
Also just a note addressing the complaints that this is solely D3 art. First of all, its not, at least a quarter of the book is D4 art. Also there are some complaints that there is nothing from D1 or D2. In one of the introductory sections, there is a quote from Samwise describing how there wasnt really concept art for either game and that basically the only art that was created happened at the end of the process when the instruction manuals had to be drafted and they needed to include some art to give the players an idea of how the game was supposed to feel. So essentially its not that the D1/D2 art was left out, its just that there wasnt much to include in the first place. Furthermore, those old manuals only included a handful of images by Samwise and Metzen - almost all of the images done by Samwise actually are included in this book, they are just peppered throughout and not explicitly noted as being from the older games. There is a significant lack of Metzen art which is dissapointing considering he wrote an introduction for the book. Definitely a bummer as the nostalgia for those old games is strong, but those images can be found elsewhere.
Overall, great book! Highly recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2020"With Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 there was no real art done for that game, in terms of concepts" recalls Didier. "The main art that everyone associated with it was from the manual. We were working on the game, and when the game was done, we had to put together the manual, and that's when we did the art that would help sell what the game would look like in your mind." Fast forward 20 years and video game design evolved dramatically- page 15 the art of Diablo.
With that out of the way the book is fantastic! The quality is really good and is really well put together. Shipping was overnight, I ordered it Friday morning with 2 day shipping and got it on Saturday. The snippets of information is always welcome and seeing the thought processes behind all of the final art was amazing. All in all it's a good purchase fore any Diablo fan. Also if you like darker art styles this is a must for inspiration.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2019This is my first amazon review after being a customer for years. This book is incredible and very high quality. If you’re a fan of ONLY the first two games then you might find it lacking as it shows the evolution of the series through what it is now and what it is about to be, but if you’re like me then you’ll love it. So much lore for everything and glorious high gloss pages of art from all 4 games, well worth the asking price and one of my favorite art books so far. Would definitely buy again!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2023Overall, it's a very high quality hardcover art book.
Having said that, the title is misleading. It seems like 90% of the art inside is official art from Diablo III, and the rest being some from 2, 4, and even Warcraft.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2023Got the game and loved it, so when I saw this I had to get it. The art and text are great for a better appreciation of the game!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2020I own the extremely rare Art of Diablo 3 (that came with the PC collector’s edition). This book is very different from that art book. It has new art that is not in that one. It has a very different feel from that book.
And while some of the art is taken from that book, I am very glad to own this one because of the new text and art that it adds. So I just wanted to let other die hard Diablo fans know that it’s worth getting.
It’s not just a repackaging of old art.

5.0 out of 5 stars bellissimo
un artbook eccezionale che vale ogni euro speso.immagini bellissime che ripercorrono tutti i personaggi della saga fino agli inizi del IV capitolo! se siete amanti della serie ve lo consiglio!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful stills of art and variant sketches, mainly of and complementing Diablo 3
Many sketches and detailed portraits on high-quality photo-type pages. These complement the key characters and locations in the video game and other books, instead of merely duplicating the cinematics. Creative concepts and themes are explained. Specific artists are credited with the artwork. The only downside is the smallest red text on the black pages - some of that text is a bit dark, and hence hard to make out against the black backgrounds.
Well worth the price.
