I did modify all by decreasing the cream a bit and increasing the milk by the same amount to reduce the fat content. So much better than store-bought! Also has recipes for gelato and sorbet that I haven't tried.

This recipe book along with our Kitchen Aid freezer bowl were the best gift for our ice cream loving 8 year old’s birthday. I definitely recommend this recipe book.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2024I really liked this book. The most lasting impression is that it feels like a bigger book. The number of included recipes seems to be more extensive than actually available. She says 100 ice cream recipes, but they are actually distributed among ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt and sorbets, plus some recipes with strong alcoholic ingredients.
The only downside is that it was more repetitive than I would have expected. Each recipe tells you about preparation of the mixing/freezing bowl and some other details, for instance. Once is enough and could be put on its own page for emphasis and reference.
I postponed my review until I had actually prepared a number of the recipes myself. Although I must admit, Peanut Butter and Bacon ice cream is of no interest, along with Chili Chocolate. Coffee-flavored ice cream is another recipe of decidedly limited appeal. Who knows? They may appeal to some people out there, but definitely not to my taste. No problem.
Va-Va-Voom Vanilla is quite good and I have used it as a base for variations. Putting some lemon extract into it made a fabulous concoction. I had not considered making my favorite, Pistachio ice cream, from scratch until I read her recipe. Pleasantly surprised that her recipe, as given, was quite satisfying and surpassed the store-bought brand that *had been* so impressive in taste and in their reusable, round, clear plastic containers with dark brown lids. There are other winners as well, so I can commend the author's choices and their execution.
I would recommend having two mixing/freezing bowls for several reasons. Keep both in the freezer (even easier if you have a separate chest freezer). Once in a while, the base mixture will not freeze well enough. Then you need to transfer it to the second bowl to get it done. Otherwise, your preparation is a fail-- too many crystals after freezing and taste unfulfilling.
Another case is when you have company and it would not be fair to offer just one flavor of frozen dessert. Still another instance is when you have made too much base mixture for just one bowl. Making a multiple-flavored concoction-- think spumoni or neapolitan-- will be much easier and quicker with two bowls. (Three would be excessive and needlessly expensive.)
I bought my bowls from different companies at different prices. Can not tell the difference in performance/results, so at least I know now that I could have bought cheaper and still had success. A recommendation for a mixing/freezing bowl to friends would be valid now, as well.
The only other complaints I could make about her book are not serious enough to mention.
It is a good book overall. Well worth getting for yourself and not running to the public library.

Wow, in this book you can find really cool recipes, I like them. I have tested some of them and they are very easy to make and very delicious! I like it, will test some further recipes, looking forward to it.
