Editorial Reviews
Review
Self-monitoring is an important skill for kids who want to live successful and productive lives. It helps them identify what they want to accomplish, stay focused, double-check everything, and ask for assistance when they need it. How Did You Miss That? shows kids these steps in action and also provides tips for parents and educators. I highly recommend it. --Alice Berger, Berger's Book Review
The Self-Monitoring Steps Are a Great Resource! This title does a wonderful job at helping kids explore the topic of how to self-monitor. Specifically, on how we sometimes forget to take the time to read instructions completely. The self-monitoring steps are a great resource that teachers could easily transfer over into a classroom setting and provide ongoing feedback. I would recommend adding visuals to this section because some of those concepts are still broad for our learners. District wide we use Zones of Regulation and we have created a book library for teachers to access trade books that correspond to the different zones. We linked this book with the yellow zone because sometimes the lack of self monitoring skills causes our students to have frustration about completing a task. (We also recommended this for our older grades 3-6). --Shannon Dobson, M-Ed, NBCT, Integrated Behavior and Education Support Team

About the author
Hello. My name is Bryan Smith. I was born and raised in Texas. I have been in elementary education for the past 22 years. The last 17 years have been spent as an elementary school counselor. During this time, I have seen many behaviors from children I wanted to see changed. Examples include changing yourself to fit in, children controlling their impulses, and bad sportsmanship. I decided to write books address these issues in a humorous way. I am so grateful to get to work with children every day. I have been married for 20 years and have two wonderful boys. I spend much of my time coaching their sports! I hope you enjoy my books and thank you for your support.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2020These books are great for students who struggle with executive functioning skills. The books gives a list of how to deal with each executive functioning skill. It has supplemental information at the end of each book. The book gives good kid examples with a lot of examples taking place in school along with home settings. I recommend these books by Bryan Smith. They are very relatable to kids and I think they would benefit from learning the strategies discussed in the books. I do have several of his books. Good for kids with ASD and SOCIAL SKILL DEFICITS..

- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2020Braden has a list of things to do before bed, and he’s sure he accomplished everything in record time. But when his mom checks his work, she shows him all the things he didn’t do. How could he have missed them all? Then his mom shares a four-step process to self-monitoring to be sure he doesn’t make the same mistake again.
At school a few days later, Braden is reminded of this problem when he misses a whole page on a test. His teacher goes over the process with him again, and this time he’s sure he’ll remember. He soon has opportunities to share his learning with his younger brother, and even with his parents!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2024Two of the pages were folded and a pages is discolored.
It looks like a used book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2020This is a cute book and very relatable for kids. But I did not realize how thin it is. I should’ve read the description better. This is 30 pages with very little content on the pages. This is more like a supplement you would receive from your doctor for free.
