- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2022My 9 year old LOVES this series. I also have a struggling reader (12) who loves them, we use the books to read aloud and in their own. MUST HAVE!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2017I read the whole series when I was a child, starting with All of a Kind Family, all the way to the last title. They were all fabulous. For the information of potential readers, the library mentioned in the first book , on East Broadway in NYC, is still there, a working library. If you visit NYC you can see it. The books present a picture of the way immigrants families worked hard to become Americans, just as they continue to today.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2021The story is delightful, 5 sisters in one family, living life, learning, being taught how to live.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2015I read the All Of A Kind Family books as a child and I loved them. I replaced them and then there was a flood and I lost them so now I am replacing them.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2017Wonderfully sweet and wholesome. My 11 yr old loves this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2014This was a Hanukkah gift to my granddaughters. I read it to my children years ago.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2023This series was given to me by my mother, the daughter of a Hewish immugrant who grew up on the Liwer East Side of New York City at the time these stories took place. It went a long way toward educating me about my family origins, as well as being simply an engaging read.
I feel strongly that in today’s twisted sociopolitical climate, books like these are critical for young readers to understand and develop empathy for a culture long set apart during certain periods of history. Before the distortions and lies reach their ears, the knowledge humanity and understanding conveyed by Sidney Taylor’s series is an important antidote to the tropes and bigotry espoused by an alarmingly, rapudly growing segment of the American population.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2015A classic. 8-yr-old granddaughter loved it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not accurate description of the book
This book is suitable if you are looking for a book about the religious and other customs celebrated by the Jewish family. It should be stated in the description. I bought this book by mistake.
