As a unique textbook, Genealogy and the Law guides readers through the variety of legal sources that genealogists need in order to explain many of the events that occurred in their ancestors’ lives. Land ownership, estate administration, and taxation are a few of the many aspects of life that cannot be fully understood without knowledge of the law in effect at the time.

How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2017Excellent reference - especially for anyone working towards certification from the Board for Certification of Genealogists. Explains many legal terms that are not commonly understood. Room for your own notes on the pages. I would recommend to anyone who wants to advance their knowledge of the legal aspects of researching genealogy.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2015Genealogy and the Law: A guide to Legal Sources for the Family Researcher is a very helpful book. It gives definitions of obscure and familiar legal terms that genealogists may come across in their research. This guide not only provides definitions as originally used, but the current meaning.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2015Good for helping to do family history. Legal sources help prove your link to your ancestries, and help to know where to find these sources.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2015Great to get as Kindle product as a resource for my library as studying this in school!
Thanks for this offering.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2015Excellent Gentle fun.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2015This review is for the print copy. The book was hugely disappointing and a poor value. It's really a pumped up pamphlet. Only 120 pages and those are double-spaced with huge margins. The quiz sections are almost all blank space; no information there. I've been told that other "books" in the series are similarly designed. I'd stay clear of them unless you have an opportunity to evaluate them before purchasing.
