Collected Poems (Macmillan Collector's Library) Hardcover – July 19, 2016
Purchase options and add-ons
As well as being one of the major literary figures of the twentieth century and the recipient of the 1923 Nobel Prize for Literature, William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) is the greatest lyric poet that Ireland has produced.
Part of the Macmillan Collector’s Library; a series of stunning, clothbound, pocket sized classics with gold foiled edges and ribbon markers. These beautiful books make perfect gifts or a treat for any book lover. This edition features an illuminating introduction by author and academic Dr Robert Mighall.
Yeats’ early work includes the beguiling 'When You are Old', 'The Cloths of Heaven' and 'The Lake Isle of Innisfree' but, unusually for a poet, Yeats's later works, including 'Parnell's Funeral', surpass even those of his youth. All are present in this volume, which reproduces the 1933 edition of W. B. Yeats's Collected Poems.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2025Collected Poems of W.B. Yeats is an absolute treasure. Yeats' work is timeless, and this collection captures the full depth of his poetic genius. From the early romantic verses to his later, more introspective works, the range and emotion in his poetry are unparalleled. The language is rich and evocative, transporting you to another world with every line. The collection is thoughtfully organized, showcasing Yeats' evolution as a poet. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to his work, this anthology is a must-have for anyone who appreciates poetry at its finest. Highly recommend!

- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2015Contains all the famous poems that are attributed to W.B. Yeats (at least, the ones I know of) and are written in a very nice easy-to-read type font.
I give this four out of five stars because I do like to have one poem per page but the poems in this book are streamed together on pages where they begin and end. This also de-emphasizes the "significance" of some of the more famous poems as they are unceremoniously dumped in between other poems without any hint of specialty.
Other than these nit-picks, the book reads great and by god it just looks so good sitting on my desk, waiting to be read. I feel a sense of excited satisfaction knowing that I own this poetry book

- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2014W.B. Yeats was prolific and had an exceptionally distinguished writing and public career. This book invites the reader to jump in at any page and just enjoy. It starts with Yeats's first published poetry volume in 1889, when Yeats was 24, and ends with his last poems in 1938-1939. His output is inspiring and in addition to the poetry includes plays and other writing, obviously not included here in a volume solely devoted to the poetry. The longer section of the poetry is the start of the book, called "Part One/Lyrical," followed by a shorter section "Narrative and Dramatic" (it's amusing that there is no "Part Two"). One fascinating aspect of Yeats's output is that some of his best work, such as "Sailing to Byzantium" and "Leda and the Swan," came after he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923, which is contrary to the common view that the Nobel Prize in any field usually is awarded after the recipient has passed his or her productive years.
The additional material in the volume includes two short prefaces, some of Yeats's notes, and explanatory notes for the poems.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2010I have yet to read through the entire book, but then again this is not the kind of book you sit down with and read page after page in order. You can, but don't have to. I have best enjoyed this book by pulling it off the shelf from time to time and reading a poem or two, mulling them over, then returning the book to the shelf. Collected works of poetry can start to bleed together when I read too many individual poems in one sitting, and the beauty of a work like this is that I can keep coming back to it and find new poetry. It's a thick, beautiful book that should be on the shelf of anyone who enjoys poetry or even for someone starting to get interested in Yeats (such as myself when I bought it). This volume will last you a long time and keep you coming back for more every time you open it up.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2023I'm rarely surprised by a books binding but this one made me smile and say "oh!" It's obvious that the book's preparation received a lot of love and attention. I'm excited to dive into this collection,

5.0 out of 5 stars Belle petite édition reliée
