- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2012I have 2 african grays and a canary. I have owned numerous avairy finches, parakeets, and several parrots. This book is awesome in the vet information that is usually lacking in the species specific type books. It is mostly geared to parrots, but in that respect, it is a must have. I buy and read any parrot training or info book I can find to keep current on ideas and care, so i see a great deal of repeat information. This is one of the very few books that has really presented info that all the others had not rehashed several times. Before i knew it, i was over 200 pages into the book, and that was just about info i thought I knew. Any bird owner should have a reference book of illness for that 'just in case' factor. This book is it and more. It is as complete as a bird book can be although I doubt any book is ever "complete". Yes, the book cost more than most but it is worth more than most, and has more info than the majority. Start here and then buy the others, you will probably end up actually saving money.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2023A lot of the information in the book can equate to chickens and that is what i wanted it for.
I have a small flock, that i try to learn about care, injuries and illness if not prevention.
This book has a lot of good info if you have birds.
It was recommended on a chicken page i belong to.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2012Wonderful species break-down, as well as good information about not only nutrition and housing for different species, but behavior and training, as well as good suggestions for what is approriate and what is inapproriate in regards to handling/interacting with your parrot. Parrots are different than dogs and as such should be interacted with in a different manner. This book is good for breaking down what to do and what not to do in the world of owning a parrot. The book also has extensive info regarding breeding, if you need such, but I skipped over that part of the book.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2012I own a parrot rescue and have spent a lot of hours looking for a good, general, up-to-date information book that I could recommend to adopters. This is exactly what I've been looking for. The Complete Pet Bird Owner's Handbook There's loads of information, from housing to travel. The information isn't in depth but I didn't want it to be for a first book for the parrots' adopters; the author supplies good, basic information and I encourage adopters to research web sites I provide for them to learn more about their particular species.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2013I am new to Birds and I was pleased with this book. I think it contains sufficient information for the practitioner seeing our companion birds. good buy and delivered fast as ever!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2018This book arrived in a timely manner and is in pristine condition! There's so much helpful information in this book--I'm very happy with my purchase. Kudos to the seller: SENIOR DOG RESCUE. The proceeds of their sales go to rescuing/helping older dogs.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2010Solid information, with extremely good sections on health care and health conditions and very good coverage on basic ownership issues such as grooming, safety, nutrition, routines etc. Has some information on behavior and training as well, but this doesn't go as deep as the other material. It covers finches and other birds as well as parrots, but much of the material is parrot-oriented. It would be the first book I'd recommend a new bird owner buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars a good book for all bird keepers
bought this as i thought it might be a good idea to have something about for reference when one of my birds gets sick, it is quite in depth regarding bird anatomy, but only gives basic first aid for birds.
