Sophia Loren A Life in Pictures Hardcover – November 1, 2008

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 41 ratings

One of the first cinematic sex symbols, Sophia Loren's charisma and voluptuous figure attracted many admirers. Despite this, she was a faithful and dedicated family woman. Committed to just one man – film producer Carlo Ponti, she considered her two children her greatest accomplishments.

Loren came from impoverished roots, yet she was possibly the greatest Italian actress of her time. Her many films included Houseboat, Two Women (for which she won the Academy award), The Fall of the Roman Empire and The Millionairess. She also loved to sing, adding to her sex appeal with a seductive voice.

'Sophia Loren: A Life in Pictures' illustrates the variety and contrasts in Loren's private and public persona, with wonderful pictures and an incisive biography.

A picture book of Sophia Loren, as the old commercials for cigarettes use to say, So round, So firm, So fully packed. Wow what a girl. She is a Goddess. This is a book of pictures through her films, from early in the 1950s through the 1990s (Grumpy Old Men days), But she doesn't age at all. There is not much to read but so much to look at. I had always thought that Sophia Loren looked foreign early in her career, like in Houseboat. She looked good in the 1970s but not all that flattering in that decade, everyone suffered then even Elizabeth Taylor, no one wore their hair well or dressed flatteringly. Moo Moos what were they thinking. Then in the 1990s she was on several magazines and everything was different. She is so lovely, so regal and earthy and she has no age. On the Oscars she out shown every young girl there with a flattering style and good colors in makeup and never over done. A Goddess more lovely in her 70s than in her youth. She is what a movie star is all about.

Nothing heavy or biographically, historically intellectual about this. Just a beautiful volume of pix of a goddess - or at least my goddess. Sophia is the love of my life in image; nothing, in that regard, changing in 50 years. Now in my dotage, she in old age, Ponti dead, I can write of my love, ha! Here we have this legacy of lovely, touching, gentle photos of her in a range from high celeb contexts through quiet peaceful home life.

I purchased this book as an inspiration to my "full sized" sister who continues to struggle with her weight, diets and working out. More than any other "inspiration" I've tried to send her, this book did it. It shows a lovely woman who isn't a stick figure. Plus, if you love the actress, the whole book is just delicious.....shows her from the beginning until now. Just a terrific journey and a great book. High quality, reasonably priced.

From the display page it is hard to tell the number and range of photos, but there are a lot. I wish I had bought this sooner.

5.0 out of 5 stars cool, sexy, actress

Well the book arived very quickly, have been a fan of Sophia loren since i saw her for the first time in operation cross bow, when i was 10 okay not the best film she was in, but even at that age i knew she was one beatiful/classy actress, loved her other films she was in. When she takes her clothes off to be examined by the doctor, Peter sellars, to reville her corsett and stckings, shows what a beatiful lady she was. Back to the book, loved it, so will try more in the series, by the the way i am 38 years of age.

El contenido del libro es perfecto pero su estado no tanto. Lo venden como "nuevo" y parece que ha sufrido muchos roces y no está en perfectas condiciones.
