For Caged & Aviary Bird Books, Brit Writers Rule the Roost
I'm not sure why, but when it comes to books for pet birds, I find my favorite research books and magazines all are written and published either in Great Britain or Australia. In furthering my point, I have at least 15 books on keeping birds and love them all. My favorite three though: 1 - The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Caged and Aviary Birds 2 - The Complete Guide to Raising Pet Birds for Profit 3 - The Complete Pet Bird Owner's Handbook What makes UECAB my favorite? 1 - Great photography that is applicable to the issue being discussed (as opposed to great pics for their own sake) 2 - Ease of finding and reading (font style and size, plus layout) 3 - Simple, non-flamboyant, style of writing makes me forget this is an encyclopedia Printed in a larger format than most books, however, makes this book too large and unwieldy to read in bed or in the bathroom. It is, however, a nice 'coffee table book.' If learning how to make money from raising pet birds piques your interest, I highly recommend you read All three of the books listed above. If commercial bird keeping is not of interest though, I urge readers to buy a copy of The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Caged and Aviary Birds plus the latest edition of The Complete Pet Bird Owner's Handbook (see my review elsewhere on Amazon). By all means, though, if you can buy only one book, get This book written by David Alderton.

Very nicely done book, but many common birds are left out, such as the nanday conure and the military macaw. Still, it is informative.

I bought this book for my husband, and he just loves it. We have an Aviary, and it is nice to see what other sorts of birds we could have in the future. Very informative on how to house, breed & feed our Aviary birds. Would be brilliant for someone new to Aviary life. Many thanks.

Although the book is not in the greatest shape, it is none the less a beautiful book. It could include more detailed information per species, but the beautiful pictures right along side the species write ups are are definitely a bonus.
The first few chapters do contain great information about getting your birds, bird care, feeding, housing, health issues, and aviaries.

I would recommend this book especially for beginers, but also for all bird lovers.

This book is beautiful for finches and softbills, but if you're looking for information on cages birds, this isn't the one for you. Beautiful pictures and a great size, but it also told me to keep a Senegal and macaw in an aviary! Definitely would recommend it for any bird enthusiast however.
