Matt Schifferle is the founder of the RedDeltaProject.com which is dedicated to helping people achieve high levels of fitness without extreme diet and exercise habits.
Matt grew up in the green mountains of Vermont enjoying the local fitness scene including biking, skiing and Ben & Jerry's Ice cream. After dedicating himself to traditional diet and exercise methods for many years he figured there had to be a way to stay in shape without making diet and exercise the focus of daily life. This was the founding belief that created the Fitness Independence movement.
Matt currently lives in Colorado and still enjoys his outdoor sports and ice cream. He's also a member of the PCC Leadership Team, a group of instructors helping to teach people how to be fit and strong with only their body weight. He's also a 5th-degree black belt in Taekwon-Do and a personal Trainer.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2018Matt Schifferle's book, SMART Bodyweight Training, which is his second book release following Fitness Independence, which is another great book but I like Matt knocked it out of the park with this release. I wrote a review when it first came out on my Kindle but somehow it never went through. But I like this book that much that I'm coming back for a second round.
He is the creator of Red Delta Project and to me, is the most informative guy in fitness on YouTube. Check out his copious amounts of videos for tips, motivation and fitness knowledge. Smart Bodyweight Training takes what Convict Conditioning started and goes even deeper. He adds in an element chart of workout progressions to add an extra dimension to the many different ways to develop skill, strength and size. Plus Matt comes across as a regular guy in the fitness world who just happens to always be developing his craft.
This is a great book for folks that are in the intermediate and advance level of fitness but want to maximize their workouts to the next level. But that's not saying a beginner couldn't jump on in and quickly be up to speed. With tips and tricks that you will be referencing for the rest of your life. Looking forward to book 3 now.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2018This book is extremely helpful. It is a great addition to Fitness independence. The concepts are easy to understand and apply immediately. It provides an updated elaboration of the e-book "chain training" and applies the concepts well to the elements of progression. The information in this book is applicable to all forms of training (including weight training). The point of view of this book has helped me in my personal fitness and changed the way I coach in the weight room.
One of the main pros or cons (depending on how you view it) is that he does outline a specific routine. He does this on purpose. Rather than telling you exactly what to do, he equips you with the knowledge and tools to continuously change what you do to strive for improvement. This approach acknowledges that everyone has a different set of strengths, weaknesses, and environmental limitations to work to improve.
For someone looking for a "quick fix" or a 10 step progression to success... find a different book.
Keep it up Matt!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2022I like Matt Schifferle and follow him on YouTube (RedDeltaProject). I also have his other books (Micro Workouts). If you have one of his books, then you don't need Smart Bodyweight Training.
Everything in Smart Bodyweight Training is pretty basic stuff that you'll find in any book on bodyweight training (and any of Matt's other books). You will learn how he structures his uses bodyweight training in a specific format that makes sense and is different than what anyone else uses or recommends. For that, it's probably worth getting this book. However, I would recommend Grind Style Calisthenics and following him on YouTube (including his free monthly programs that he provides).
However, if you have limited knowledge of bodyweight training, then you will find this book useful (although there are some better books on bodyweight training including his Grind Style Calisthenics).
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2020What I love about this book as well as his original book for which I have also read, "Fitness Independence" is that it offers down to earth and a more practical approach to fitness unlike other books I've read offering pretty much a cookie cutter approach that one size fits all because everyone has there own individual goals. This book as well as his original book have been a total inspiration to me in obtaining my personal fitness goals, keep em coming Matt. I will definitely read his next book with his grind style techniques particularly with highlighting the most underrated form of exercise known as isometrics for which I have in the past trained with offering me striking results even now especially with the Bullworker Classic as a finisher.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2019Matt does an excellent job in breaking down the elements of bodyweight training so that everyone, from beginner to veteran, can learn better ways to train on the go, the freedom of calisthenics, and the fact from fiction in training this way. Even if you love the iron, this can benefit you to learning how to bulletproof your joints, add new spice to your training regimen, and help progress to new levels of strength. Excellent book. Highly recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2018“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest”. Benjamin Franklin
Having read many books on strength training and bodyweight training and being a practitioner of both, I can say this book contains a wealth of knowledge to anyone serious about getting stronger, fitter, and becoming a better mover with bodyweight training.
The book contains new concepts that challenge the way you think about training that I haven’t seen in other books.
This book also teaches you that you can train unrestricted, anywhere at anytime.
Don’t just read the book, go experiment and put the exercises and knowledge to WORK.
Thank you Matt
- Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2021New concepts on calisthenics training sets this book apart from it’s peers. TOT is very important and Matt’s emphasis on it and his chain training makes this book a must read to better the craft of bodyweight training. Well done.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2018I can count on 1 hand the number of people in the BW training community I would point others towards, and Matt would be the 1st of 2nd suggestion. If you ask me, Matt and the Kavadlo brothers are as good as it gets in this community. Also, if you haven't yet, check out his youtube page for the Red Delta Project. If you think he's good on the page, he's even better on video. Does a fantastic job of cutting through the BS, tearing through paralysis by analysis, and really sending a clear message. I would highly suggest any project by Matt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Libro completo e adatto a tutti

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend!
I am a total bodyweight training geek and I love this book! Though I've read a lot of the calisthenics book that are out there, there are only a couple that I return to again and again. This book has now made it to my list of bodyweight training "bibles", as it is jam packed with useful and insightful information. The exercises themselves were nothing really new, but the philosophy about how to actually train calisthenics using the chain training idea, and how to manipulate your program for varying goals was something I had not seen yet written about in such detail in another bodyweight training book. Also as a trainer, it did give me some fresh ideas of how to teach calisthenics to clients and progress properly. I've been following Matt Scifferle for awhile on YouTube and I believe his ideas and philosophy about calisthenics and duet and fitness are super practical and sound. Highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Smart Training
