Oak Island Endgame, the fourth and most likely the final book in this series, is the culmination of several years of research into the Oak Island, Nova Scotia, treasure mystery as conducted by author James A. McQuiston, FSA Scot. McQuiston is a Fellow with the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, and is related to the premier Knight Baronet of Nova Scotia. Because of this, he was asked by the Oak Island team to share his theories about this mystery, over a three year period, beginning in 2016.McQuiston has attended four meetings in the Oak Island “war room,” made famous on The Curse of Oak Island TV show, and has appeared on that show a few times. He was also given special access to books, maps, and details of the current Oak Island dig, which, when blended with his own Scottish history studies, resulted in a unique theory that ranked #6 out of the 25 theories that made it to the “Top 25 Theories” episode of the show.James McQuiston was also asked to provide a quote to be displayed on the wall of the Oak Island Interpretive Center. For this honor, he chose these words:“Oak Island is not so much a mystery to be solved as it is a chance to experience the unapologetic fascination of youth once again.”

Of all the books about the Oak Island mystery, this one is the best researched and the one that offers the most plausible explanation for what happened on Oak Island 3-4 centuries ago. For those who love Acadian history or those who are addicted to the mystery of Oak Island, this is a must-read addition to your library. The author's prior books on this subject should not be ignored either - while the passage of time brings more secrets to the surface, each of his books are well worth reading.

Best explanation of this place in history yet.
  • Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2024
The author has written about 9 books on his theory about who inhabited Oak Island not recorded or remembered in established history, and whether a treasure may have been buried there. His theory is backed up with numerous forgotten documents from government and genealogical archives. He strings together too many coincidences to not be plausible. Each books further builds on his theory by adding more findings he has uncovered. The author has been on the Curse of Oak Island History Channel program several times and his theory is currently ranked #2 most probable by the Oak Island team. All of these books are quick and enjoyable reads.

I have been interested in the history of Oak Island because of the television show but the books can be very dry. This book is a historical novel so it has the history but adds a wonderful story.

Interesting theory with considerable well researched chronology. The author spends too much time trying to prove his own credentials. Ne does not address other similar theories. (See Helpern) He likes himself very much.

Another great narrative based on historical accounts and records. We have come to expect nothing less from the author, James McQuiston.

I enjoyed this book for the history of the area since my wife's ancestors were Arcadian settlers from France in this time period. It poses a well thought out theory of what is waiting to be found on Oak Island. If you enjoy the series on TV this book is a must read.
