I am the father of Asher, Jules, and Aila, three remarkable teenagers moving far too quickly into adulthood. They are the best things I have done in life. Serendipity has been kind to me as well: I stumbled into my future wife, Ali, during a lunch meeting in September 1997 and we married just a few months later, even though it took two Catholic Priests and one Methodist Pastor to convince her it was a good idea. Fortunately, God was on my side.
I'm on the faculty at the University of Idaho and my personal and professional ambition is to be useful. I work hard at taking life seriously without taking myself too seriously. I believe that mechanical evolution peaked with the bicycle, that shape note singing is beautiful, and that all dogs go to heaven, even my parent's pomeranian.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2020In their introduction, the authors talk about writing from the heart and their book is a gift for the heart. The essays, poems, and images uplift, inspire, and provoke deep thinking. It is easy to relate to the stories, to ponder the meaning of the poetry, and to get lost in the beauty of the photographs and drawings. It is a joy to read a few pieces at the break of day and then head out to meet what life offers, knowing a few more passages await you at the end of the day. I’m turning now to the Profound Living blog and already looking forward to the next collection!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2019I follow the Profound Living blog, so I knew the book would be great. But the book is more than I expected. The essays are well crafted, thoughtful and provocative. As a reader, I'm challenged to be better, see more and pay attention better, just as these wonderful authors have. Wonderful book, I'm thrilled to add it to my library.
