Equestrian Books and Media: Ruth co-authors the annual editions of The Dressage Riders Journal as well as The Jumper Riders Journal with Ariana Marshall – longtime friend and prior dressage rider. Forming a strategic riding plan for each horse and rider in Ruth's program was where necessity formed The Dressage Riders Journal. Ruth found a need for keeping better records, looking for trends, finding patterns, lookin more closely at achieving her students goals and much more. The Dressage Rider's Journal was born!
Ruth, in conjunction with the late Jane Savoie, created “Program Your Position,” a shorthand language that changes the software in your subconscious mind so you can quickly and easily trigger position corrections. Ruth is also the creator of “Riding with Soul,” CDs designed to help you identify the perfect tempo, define your sense of rhythm and aid in relaxation for your musical freestyle. For more information, visit Ruth's website.
Dressage Musical Freestyles: Ruth has been designing and choreographing competitive musical freestyles for many decades, creating freestyles which have been represented in every level of the USDF Regional Championships, and performed at the World Equestrian Games, Regional Championships, National Championships and HOTYA awards, as well as by Para-Equestrians.
Dressage Trainer and Coach: As a trainer and coach, many of Ruth's students and their horses have risen through the levels from Intro to Grand Prix and won both Regional and Reserve National Championships. Ruth has coached riders and horses who have won top honors in the USDF Year-End, Horse of the Year or All Breed Awards.
Hi! I'm a former horseback rider who now lives my best horse life vicariously through watching friends and readers reach their horseback riding and horse-obsessive dreams!
I co-create a series of equestrian annual planners and workbooks with FEI dressage trainer Ruth Hogan-Poulsen.
In my earlier horse-obsessed life, I enjoyed long distance trail riding in Vermont, a summer as a dude ranch guide in Wyoming, training my own off the track Thoroughbred all the way to bad Training Level dressage in Virginia and wildly galloping across the foothills on a native pony in Kyrgyzstan. More intentionally, I also competed up to the FEI Prix St. Georges level of dressage (okay, just once! But, it counts!) while studying with and working for Ruth.
In 2020-2022, I homeschooled my own elementary age children and so began my horse-inspired homeschooling (Horseschooling!) publishing projects. Hat tip to Sarah Janisse Brown's Fun-Schooling publications for opening my eyes to the tangible possibilities of interest-led and fun learning.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my books.

For context: my horse is a semi-retired 26yo former eventer, now at a dressage barn, and doing dressage to stay healthy, supple, and fit both physically and mentally. So this is a great tool even if you're not hoping to take the show world by storm.
There's TONS of room for side notes, drawing figures, etc.
There's even charts to easily plan show schedules, sign up dates, and record details about test scores.
As a rider who only sees her trainer every few weeks but has BIG goals, this planner is an absolute must to keep me on track, motivated and focused. 5* all day long.

Far exceeded my expectations
Just organizing show dates and entry dates alone is huge .... And the spaces for notes, goals, and accomplishments
Great gift giving idea for yourself, friends, family and of course the secret Santa’s or yankee swap :)

The new layout is wonderful with more room for goals, making notes and feedback from my coach. Also love the new cover beautiful artwork.
Even if your like me and not planning on showing this year, you will find this to be a great resource to keep you on track and record your training progress with your horse.
Really well done.
