Pope Francis proclaims Year “Amoris Laetitia Family”
Begins March 19, 2021, and ends June 26, 2022, with the celebration of the 10th World Meeting of Families in Rome
Pope Francis signed the apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia (“The Joy of Love”) on March 19, 2016, following the synods on the family in 2014 and 2015.
One of the most extensive documents in papal history, it covers contemporary challenges related to marriage and family life across the world. It also offers encouragement to pastors and the laity to accompany and care for families.
Pope Francis marks upcoming fifth anniversary of Amoris Laetitia
On Dec. 27, 2020, the feast of the Holy Family, Pope Francis noted that March 19, 2021, would mark five years since the signing of Amoris Laetitia.
The Holy Father said: “Today’s feast reminds us of the example of evangelizing with the family, proposing to us once again the ideal of conjugal and family love, as underlined in the apostolic exhortation Amoris laetitia.
From the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life:
“The pandemic experience has highlighted the central role of the family as the domestic Church and has shown the importance of community ties between families, which make the Church an authentic ‘family of families.’
“...Pope Francis intends to address all ecclesial communities throughout the world, exhorting each person to be a witness of family love."

About the author
![Pope Francis](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61kkXiZYQiL._SY600_.jpg)
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17 1936, is the 266th and current Pope of the Catholic Church, having been elected Bishop of Rome and absolute Sovereign of Vatican City.
Born in Buenos Aires as the son of Italian parents, Jorge Mario Bergoglio was ordained a priest in 1969. From 1973 to 1979 he was Argentina's Provincial superior of the Society of Jesus. He became Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998, and a cardinal in 2001. Following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI in February 2013, on March 13, 2013 the papal conclave elected Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who chose the papal name Francis in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi. Pope Francis is the first Jesuit pope, the first pope from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere and the first non-European Pope since Pope Gregory III, 1272 years earlier.
Throughout his life, both as an individual and as a religious leader, Pope Francis has been noted for his humility, his concern for the poor, and his commitment to dialogue as a way to build bridges between people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and faiths.
Pope Francis has published a compilation of his teachings in two volumes entitled Simple Wisdom: Hold On to Hope, Vol. 1, and Simple Wisdom: The Joy of Evangelization, Vol. 1. He also published his first encyclical entitled The Light of Faith: Lumen Fidei, which is available in English and Spanish.
The Joy of the Gospel: Evangelii Gaudium, recently published, is the long-awaited teaching of Pope Francis on the proclamation of the Gospel. He is calling upon the Church and the world with encouragement to begin a new chapter in evangelization.
Pope Francis has captured the attention of the world with his simple ways, humbleness, and love for the poor and sick.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2016There was a lot of misdirection by the press about Amoris Laetitia and I had a lot of friends asking me if the pope had really said this or that so I had to get a copy and check it out to accurately answer those questions. Thankfully, I discovered that, as usual, the press had taken many statements out of context. Very clear, easy to read, and faithful to church doctrine.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2016Without exception, the Pope's commentaries in Chapter 4, "Love in Marriage," on St. Paul's lengthy list of the
characteristics of true love is the deepest, most rewarding, magnificent celebration of true love I have ever,or will
ever encounter. I will continue reading this work with the greatest of expectations.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2016In a culture and era when the basic building block of society is more and more ignored, Pope Francis speaks words of truth. When love is debased and family disintegrating, his words are a powerful reminder of our nature and a clarion call to renew our commitment to unselfish love and strengthened family life.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2016The chapter on love is excellent. It could stand alone as a separate booklet. He runs through applications of St. Paul's characterizations of love is patient etc.. It is filled with good advice for married couples and families. The book is criticized because Pope Francis does not explicitly address the question of whether or not Catholics who are remarried outside the Catholic Church can receive the Eucharist. The critics hold that the Pope is in conflict with Catholic teaching even if the Pope has said that he has proposed no changes in Catholic teaching on marriage, remarriage and reception of the Eucharist. What Pope Francis did was not criticize a practice which has developed of some pastors counseling their parishioners who are remarried outside the church from receiving the Eucharist. He explicitly has not changed any teaching but he has refrained from condemning a practice which some think conflicts with church teaching
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2017Best guide on how to live, accept life on life's terms, grow in understanding of people and oneself! Everyone should read it- people of all faiths and those with no faith- it's s guide for humanity.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2016Rather than read the snippets of this book that are selectively quoted by those with a hidden agenda, read the whole thing for yourself. I am very glad that I did. Pope Francis encourages and challenges all of us to love, honor and cherish the family - even, and perhaps especially, when it falls short of perfection. This should be required reading for young couples thinking about marriage.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2016Pope Francis is very easy to read with a poetic flare and gives great practical as well as theological insight into the meaning, beauty, and challenges of marriage and family life in the modern world.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2018Read chapter 4 especially. Pope Francis explores what a household looks like when love is patient, kind, etc. Beautiful and practical ideas.
