Quick Reference Neuroscience for Rehabilitation Professionals: The Essential Neurologic Principles Underlying Rehabilitation Practice Third Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 148 ratings

Traditionally, neuroscience is the most difficult area for a student to grasp in the rehabilitation profession. Quick Reference Neuroscience for Rehabilitation Professionals: The Essential Neurologic Principles Underlying Rehabilitation Practice provides this complex information in a quick, easy-to-use format that every student and clinician must have!

Quick Reference Neuroscience for Rehabilitation Professionals is written specifically for the rehabilitation professional and student. The text is written in a simplistic, bulleted-outlined format with accompanying full-page, color illustrations that enhance understanding of the subject matter. Clinical correlates are discussed to provide a greater understanding of the common pathological disorders that occur in response to damage to specific neuroanatomical structures. In addition to a basic understanding of neuroanatomical structures and functions, the book provides an easy-to-read discussion of the essential neuroscience information necessary for the rehabilitation professional and student.

Features

  • Bulleted outline format makes it easy to find pertinent information quickly.
  • Color illustrations make abstract neurologic concepts easy to understand.
  • Clinical correlates regarding the most common neurologic conditions are discussed in each section of the book.
  • The Glossary includes clinical terms not often found in the glossaries of basic neuroscience textbooks.
  • Because the book was written by an occupational therapist, it focuses only on the essential neuroscience concepts that are important for the rehabilitation professional.

I enjoy this textbook and the content. When I received this textbook the middle of the textbook has fallen out. I can still use the book but I do need to keep up with all the pages and specific numbers.

I love this book! I got it as a supplemental book for my neuroscience classes in OT school and I am so happy I did. It is the easiest quick reference neuro guide I have found. It has anatomy sections along with a section dedicated to neurotransmitters and chemicals in the brain. I like how it tells you different diseases that can come from lack of certain chemicals. I find myself referencing this often when I need a better explanation of something in my other textbooks. A must get for any student in the rehab field needing to know neuroscience!

Great quality. But it smells like a dead animal. Can barely tolerate reading it. Even the people I sit by can’t tolerate the smell.

I am a very serious head trauma patient who is trying to understand the likely trajectory of my recovery and what are the key things from my Neurologist and my Rehab Healthcare Specialists’ perspectives.

What I liked about this book was it explained fully the functional and integration of the brain first. Then it goes into some of the potential problem areas in detail so you can see how the brain gets changed and then through neuroplasticity how it can make some recovery. For example after my head trauma, I had haematomas in five places. This book explained in detail the impact and some of the ways they can be treated. Then it talked about potential consequences of the injuries. For example in my case, I was paralysed down my left side. It discussed this as a possible scenario, what caused it and the prognosis. So although my case was a specific scenario, I can see how it would also assist Rehab healthcare professionals with multiple diverse cases.
