Editorial Reviews
Review
"Here is medicine in the form of meditations, a weapon in the shape of a 31-day devotional. Each day for a month, begin your day with Deepak reading you Scripture, and teaching from it. Plain spoken, searching, practical, humble and hopeful--this could be just what you've been looking for in your struggle for something better than fantasy." -- Mark Dever, Senior Pastor, Capitol Hill Baptist Church, Washington, D.C.; President, 9Marks
Deepak Reju frankly and pastorally addresses one of the most pervasive, most lethal―and least acknowledged―assaults on Christian discipleship today. Since shame and self-condemnation cannot free those enslaved to lust in its various easily accessible forms, Reju’s month of meditations fortifies those committed to fight for purity by focusing our hearts’ eyes on Christ in all his beauty, mercy, and power. -- Dennis E. Johnson, Professor of Practical Theology, Westminster Seminary California
Anyone knows that to have any sin conquered we much attack that problem at its core, intentionally and deliberately. An old Valley of Vision prayer says that, “if we would have any sin subdued, we must not only labor to overcome it . . . but must invite Christ to abide in its place”. In Pornography: Fighting for Purity, Deepak Reju has helped men, in a very practical way, do this very thing! -- John Freeman, Founder, Harvest USA; Author, Hide or Seek: When Men Get Real with God About Sex
For the individual who suffers under the tyranny of pornography, Deepak Reju serves you well by providing you hope and help in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Deepak walks alongside you throughout the month enabling you to grow in understanding yourself, your circumstances, and God. Through daily reading and reflection questions, Deepak provides you the necessary insight with practical application to break pornography's hold, helping you better glorify God in your daily living. -- Kevin Carson, Pastor, Sonrise Baptist Church, Ozark, Missouri; Biblical Counseling Professor and Department Chair, Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary, Springfield, Missouri
"As a pastor that regularly meets with people who struggle with pornography, I'm often looking for resources that don't fuel self-hatred or self-motivation in the battle against lust. I'm often needing resources that will not be a single book, but a daily friend that fuels faithfulness by grace laced, heavenly minded joy that is better than the cotton candy pornography offers us. This book seems to meet all these needs and therefore I look forward to putting it into the hands of the people that need it." -- Nathan Knight, pastor of Restoration Church in Washington D.C. and a 9Marks author
"Reju's work on pornography is relentlessly biblical, consistently practical and wonderfully aggressive in laying out the need for godly community and humility. I have worked with many who struggled with pornography and I wish I could have had this resource to give to each of them!" -- Alasdair Groves, faculty member at CCEF, director of counseling at CCEF New England

- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2019As a pastor, one reoccurring sin that is constantly confessed among young men is the sin of pornography. Many young men have heard sermons against pornography, have tried accountability groups and computer software, but still often feel defeated by this sin. If they are honest, they will probably confess they feel the enslaved to pornography. How can a pastor help those in his flock? Deepak's devotional on pornography is a great book to give away to a young man (or woman) dealing with this particular sin. The devotional is easy to read, short, and accessible to all believers. Too often, young men try to fight sin by their own willpower and strength only to feel despair and defeated when they click on something they shouldn't again and again. I love Deepak's book because its theological, Scripture-saturated, gospel-liberating, and practical. Deepak writes in the beginning of the book, "The conversation about fighting pornography begins and ends with Christ" (11). The battle against pornography is won through growing affection and commitment to Christ, a robust understanding of one's identity and union in Christ, and commitment to God's people. Deepak ends his book where he started, "Jesus is always the beginning and the end of the matter" (79). Use the scripture, the grace and hope-filled words, the reflection questions, and practical assignments in this devotional to help others in your church combat this sin. And by God's grace, may believers grow in affection for Christ and his gospel while mortifying the sin of pornography.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2019I like that this book is full of Gospel truth; it isn't a self-help manual. The chapters are small enough where they don't take too long to read; however, they are meaty enough to give you something to meditate on throughout the day. The book does a good job of balancing God's grace and our responsibility.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2021Planning to read this several times through. Reju roots each piece of encouragement in the Word and provides practical ways to fight at the end of each chapter.
