This is not for the person who wants to lose a few pounds (thinking temporary changes) rather than a lifelong adaptation of the plan. This is not for a novice in the kitchen. All of that being said, this is an amazing cleanse. As of today, my spouse and I are on day 29 of the 30-day plan. I followed it 100% to the T! I am down 19 pounds and my wife is down 16. I have lived this plan for a month now and I can say it takes a LOT of planning, prepping and cooking to succeed. Lots of scheduling of hydration and feeding times. If you have a full time job or a family, this is not for you, you wont have time to do it all. I am blessed to not be working and could dedicate myself 100% to this for a month. My wife hasn't had to read a thing or learn any of it because she just eats what i put in front of her, and these dishes are amazing. For someone (me) who has cooked "keto" now for years and was trying to find some new recipes, this was that. I am also a kitchen witch so cooking and food prep is my jam. I probably dedicated 3 hours a day to prep and cooking for this plan, but it was worth every second. I am already planning to do this again for another 30 and I will update post if we do. The progress on the scale is unlike anything I have seen since going into menopause a couple years back. Thank you Maria for being such a powerhouse in keto cooking, and thank you for getting me out from under those first 20 pounds! Oh, and I take back all the times I took your name in vane while preparing the recipes... The first day I was scared of being hungry, we both experienced the headaches, the flu type feelings during the first week. Towards the end of week 2, we were completely adapted to this way of eating and we felt great and feel good to this day. (I swear the cravings go away and you don't obsessively think about snacks. But getting over bread took me about a month).
This book changed our lives. We have attempted to go grain free before but this really shifted our perspective and ambitions about our health. During the cleanse we did not eat out of order food. We always buy organic and grass-fed humane meat and we came to the conclusion that restaurants and ordering-in is just not for us (exceptions such as good sushi places or steakhouses where we know the provenance of the vegetables and protein).
The recipes are better than I anticipated. This book is really a tour de force, you cannot expect it to please every palate and fit every person's expectations. If a recipe was too complicated or not inspiring, I would switch it with another or cut a few corners here and there always while respecting the basic rules. Our favorites were the ramen (I make my own pork belly in slow cooker with coco aminos, ginger and garlic), the beef rib and chorizo stew, the breads and the super easy "English muffin" such a life saver on busy days! This book also cleaned our pantry.
I was not able to complete the cleanse fully because my baby was born (came sooner and delivered at the speed of lightning) and at the hospital I tried to follow keto but due to overwhelmed emotions, I cheated with cake and a sandwich! That is OK because this lifestyle is fully engrained in our lives now. Since the hospital, we reintegrated only nuts into our diet and butter.
For those who are pregnant and wonder if they can do this diet and then breastfeed successfully I can testify that ABSOLUTELY. I felt amazing towards the end of my pregnancy because of this way of eating and I am melting my excess weight off SO FAST all the while breastfeeding no problem.
One important advice for breastfeeding moms: DRINK LOTS OF WATER. No water = no milk. It's not so much what you eat as it is the proper amount of calories. I also take fenugreek supplements. I am not looking at being in ketosis right now, sometimes I eat an apple or a banana but 95% of the time I follow the diet in this book (with added nuts and butter) and I even do intermittent fasting.
I am not the best reviewer out there, I could write a novel about this book and all its details. Today I received Maria's "Keto comfort foods" and I am SO EXCITED to try the recipes.
Maria is putting out amazing books, lots of hard work goes into them these are truly quality books. I am super grateful to have found them, my husband and I feel great since we did the cleanse. Once my doctor clears me to start exercising again we will get keto strips and start to get really serious about ketosis. Until then, this has put us into great shape already.

Muchas recetas buenas pero demasiado difíciles para estar cocinando después del trabajo. Lastima que no pueden ser recetas más fáciles y rápidas. Por eso no le doy 5 estrellas.

I purchased this book because I wanted to do a cleanse while on keto. I have been off and on low carb diets for a couple of years and I find that this is the best way of eating for me. I started a keto diet staying below 30 grams of net carbs about 5 weeks before starting this cleanse. During this time I lost 8 lbs. I started the cleanse using this book 1 week ago and I have lost 7 lbs. I was worried about being able to fast and not eat breakfast but I haven't had a problem. My appetite has decreased and I feel much better.
The pros:
*Beautiful pictures for recipes
*Great tasting recipes (haven't found any I haven't liked; however, there are several we tried this week that are going to go in our regular routine)
*Great information that is easy for the average person to understand
*Shopping lists that take all the guess work out
*Meal plans that can easily be changed for someone who needs less prep time, doesn't like certain ingredients, etc
*The author keeps a facebook page for support and answers questions asked by people doing the cleanse
*The author is obviously well versed on this topic
*Started cooking with fresh ingredients and spices. The only thing I haven't prepared yet is my own mayo (there is a recipe in the book)
The Cons:
*first meal recipes are heavy on the eggs (disclaimer: I haven't had a hard time substituting recipes in their place when I don't want to have to reheat eggs. The egg recipes that I have tried are delicious)
In conclusion, I would highly recommend this book and will be giving copies to a couple of people as gifts. Even my husband has started reading it. He hasn't started the Cleanse yet but he is following a LCHF diet with me (not fasting) and he's loving many of the meals. Plus I am home cooking everything from scratch.
If you purchase the book, plan to take a couple of days and gather the ingredients that you will need.

Ottimo libro, fantastica la parte che spiega la dieta chetogenica. Belle ricette. L'unica pecca è che molti prodotti richiesti per le ricette sono difficilmente reperibili in Italia.

Maria Emmerich est la "papesse" du régime cétogénique outre-Atlantique. Ses recettes sont faciles, bien expliquées, et plutôt acceptables pour un palais français. Elle donne de bonnes bases qui peuvent servir à adapter nos propres recettes.
Les explications sur l'effet physiologique du régime sont très claires, car le principe de ce régime va à l'encontre de pratiquement toutes nos croyances en matière de nutrition et de santé alimentaire, manger beaucoup de graisses et en plus des graisses saturées !
Au bout d'1 mois et demi de cette révolution alimentaire, j'ai perdu une taille de vêtements, le niveau de mon glucose sanguin est redevenu normal (1,19g/l) après être monté de 1,26 à 1,47g/l en suivant un régime à indice glycémique bas (celui préconisé par toute la communauté diététique française) et tout cela en ayant une impression de satiété et ne me sentant pas frustrée au niveau gourmandise.
La colite qui m'accompagne depuis plusieurs années s'est fortement calmée, je me sens en forme, je fais du sport avec plaisir, bref une renaissance.
Cela m'a obligée aussi à bien écouter les limites de mon corps et la "vraie" faim, car sinon, crise de foie assurée !!!
J'ai décidé d'inverser les repas et de prendre des œufs plutôt le soir, et de manger la viande, saucisses etc... au petit déjeuner,et/ou déjeuner ce qui me réussit mieux pour bien dormir.
A tester quand vous galérez à trouver le type d'alimentation qui vous convient pour atteindre le bien-être.
