The Ajna chakra, energetically located between the eyebrows, is the sixth chakra. It represents your insight, wisdom, and developed intellect.
The Ajna chakra is essential to transforming your knowledge and random, undigested information to wisdom and calculated, digested truth, thus bringing you closer to Yoga.
The Ajna chakra is your spiritual eye chakra (third eye chakra), which helps you see clearly when functioning optimally. When dysfunctional, it keeps you in ignorance. No thank you.
Balasana: Child's Pose
On your mat, come onto your hands and knees. Sit back on your heels for Balasana, Child’s Pose. Make sure your third eye, the spot between your eyebrows, touches the floor, or a pillow if you need support. Bring your arms by your sides to relax entirely in the pose. If your bodyweight is pushing you forward, keep your arms in front for support. Put all your attention on the spot between your eyebrows and repeat the mantra 'I am willing to go within for my answers.' Hold for 5 minutes, if it’s relaxing, while repeating the mantra and focusing on your third eye. Resist the resistance to look within.
Editorial Reviews
Review
"Yoga has power beyond the physical practice, but it can be difficult to share all the philosophy in the limited time we have on the mat. Rina’s book not only explains this power in simple terms, but is also fun to read! Rina is a great person who lives yoga on and off the mat. This book is the missing piece for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike to deepen their practice through exploration of yoga’s foundation."―Kim Paulsen, General Manager of Yoga Journal
“Before this I did not believe it possible to laugh, learn and then live yoga from reading one book. Rina brilliantly demystifies the subject so that anyone can thoroughly understand the ABC’s of yoga. The Yoga Mind is an epic contribution to the field of yoga, saving people countless hours and dollars who want to be educated in the arena without having to ‘do it all’.”―Eric Paskel, philosopher and yoga teacher
“Like Rina herself, this beautiful and approachable exploration of yoga is full of positive energy, dynamic creative expression, and deep and practical wisdom offered with love. For those just beginning their heroic yoga journey and anyone looking for an inspiring everyday handbook on the practical application of yoga in real life, Rina offers a fresh and needed voice to uplift and encourage. The pathway to real transformation lies within; thanks to Rina, it is now made accessible to all.”―David Lipsius, President & CEO of Yoga Alliance and Yoga Alliance Foundation
“Rina’s down-to-earth style of writing and practical approach offers a fresh and playful energy to the often-misunderstood and abstract topic of yoga philosophy.”―Nicolai Bachman, Sanskrit scholar
“Rina is an amazing teacher and has the gift of explaining things in simple, fun, and yet very profound ways. She teaches from her heart and you will feel that connection when you learn with her about the philosophy behind this physical practice that can be a life-changer and will empower you in all areas of your life!”―Marco Antonio Regil, TV host and public speaker
“If you’re ready to deepen your yoga practice and move it from the mat into everyday life, The Yoga Mind, a guidebook of ancient wisdom for the modern-day yogi, expertly distilled by Rina Jakubowicz, will show you how. Approachable, accessible, and comprehensive, this book explores everything from yoga postures to principles and offers thought-provoking exercises that will lead you to a greater understanding of yoga―and yourself.”―Amy Weiss, author of Crescendo
“Rina’s book gives a new approach to your yoga practice―one that includes soul, intellect and body all in harmony and unity through an inner journey to connect with yourself and others.”―Pablo Sainz Villegas, world-class guitarist

- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2024I’ve been “doing” yoga 20 years and found this mini-encyclopedia to be a much needed reminder of, well everything. Because yoga is of course not just about asana. It’s refreshing to see the basic, the complex and the esoteric all woven together and explained with an appreciation for curiosity and lifelong learning. The intro says the book is for someone who already practices yoga but I think it’s ok for newbies who have open minds. I know I was intrigued from the moment I took a yoga class and would have loved to have this compilation back then. This book can also be used as a “daily reading”
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2022Wonderfully written - easy to read and understand. This book gives you a basic understanding of the many aspects of yoga. For a long time I thought yoga was the poses, as I became more curious I came across the term yoga philosophy. I began trying to learn about yoga philosophy not having any guide as to where to start and coming across many books and subjects that are somewhat hard to understand without having any background information. This book gives you that and more! She gives you the perfect beginner guide into yoga, with a basic understanding of the origins and the core principles of yoga! I now feel ready to truly delve into and deepen my yoga practice! Thank you Rina! I wish I had had this book a lot sooner, I am truly grateful for it now!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2022I don’t really like the tone this book is written in. Author assumes you will be absolutely bewildered by any and all yoga concepts and talks down to the reader. At other places it’s just a bit cringey…at one point it says “Enlightenment, baby!” or something like that. Yikes. It’s not my preference but some may like it or think it makes difficult concepts more accessible. I’m also not sure who the intended audience for this book is: I certainly need something more in depth as a seasoned practitioner, but newbies in the reviews are saying it’s not descriptive enough for them. Kinda just a miss.

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2023I was looking for a book to explain the philosophy of yoga in a way that a novice can understand. It’s laid out well and presents the info clearly. It also gives plenty of resources and books if you want to further delve into specific topics.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2018A great introduction for those looking to learn about what yoga means, the eight limbs of yoga, and some of the fundamental tenets. Each one is a short chapter. Rina’s style keeps each philosophy very simple. She has a practice for each philosophy which consists of a pose with a meditation. She also includes an applicable quote with each chapter. I use this book for my yoga classes all the time.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2022I love the nuggets of info and the way the book is played out. Writings are well said and palatable.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2018I think the style of this writing just doesn't appeal to me. I had expected a bit more practical information I could use in my practice, but haven't really found that.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very simple
Very simple. Good for someone who has no idea about yoga which is such a vast subject. I didn't like the way it was written though, but that's personal.
