- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2016An ideal time to read a book about this remarkable individual whose life both spanned such a tumultuous time in world history and knowing of how her good deeds touched the hearts of so many. I found this particular book to be generally well-written and concise covering topics such as her mother's huge impact on young Agnes's life, coming to know the poverty that was colonial India just 10 feet from her classroom, her extraordinary efforts to raise schools, health facilities and hospices worldwide for the poor and further involvement in the Beirut War, Chernobyl disaster and AIDS crisis among other notable events. Truly someone who lived by the mantra that 'All people were her people" and eminently deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize, and one question raised in the book I hope others might know the answer to, "What 3 different years prior to her eventually winning the Nobel Peace Prize was she nominated?" Wonderful book that I thoroughly enjoyed and I do recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2014This is the first reading I have ever done about Mother Teresa and I found it most enjoyable and informative. She came from a middle class family until war and discontent hit her area and then times were hard. Her father was very political and maybe a rebel rouser in his politics; her mother was a kind compassionate caring woman who stressed sharing whatever they had to the people around them. She opened her table to whoever came in to partake of their food...no matter how poor or from what area or color or what language they spoke...the mother always told Mother Teresa as long as she had something (no matter how meager) she had something to share. Mother Teresa lived her life by this lesson from her mother; she also learned to organize and be political in a loving way like her father. The two facets of her life came together to assist her do God's work in her life's mission on earth. She became a nun, a teacher, a health care worker, a great politician in troubled areas, etc. My book was downloaded onto my Kindle from Amazon and I recommend it to everyone. Get your copy of the book and start reading so you can find your life's work and begin doing it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2015It's too bad about the division of Church and State in the U.S.A., because this book should be required reading in our schools, right alongside "The Diary of Anne Frank." The book on Anne Frank left me feeling sad and helpless to make a difference in this world; whereas, the book about Mother Teresa is beautiful and inspiring, and leaves the reader feeling as though anyone can be the catalyst for great and loving works, to lift up the ill or downtrodden, and do great works for all of humanity! Mother Teresa was one of a kind, she led by example, there will never be anyone else like her. Despite being small in stature, she could move Heaven and Earth, to accomplish marvelous miracles that benefited ALL of mankind everywhere. She didn't belong exclusively to India, because all over the world, she brought hope, comfort, and love; therefore, all of mankind was pleased and proud to claim her for their own. I hope she achieves sainthood in my lifetime, because she earned and deserves it. She's definitely one of my role models in this life, as was Gandhi, Princess Diana, and presently, Pope Francis.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2014"Do one beautiful thing for God each day". This is the guiding philosophy of Mother Theresa's life and she accomplished this by seeing God in all she encountered, especially the poor and dispossessed. Her life is truly inspirational. She was an independent, spunky, and creative woman who in many ways was a feminist who forged her own path in following her calling. At the same time, she was humble, loving and devoted to God. I thoroughly enjoyed this short but informative book. I was inspired by this holy and very human woman and highly recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2014I would actually give this book 3 1/2 stars because I learned quite a bit about this amazing and compassionate woman, but the writing was very repetitive and particularly toward the end became overly religious. Of course I do expect a good dose of religion in light of who and what Mother Teresa was, but the author just started to layer it on too thick in the last third of the book. That said, it does offer an interesting glimpse into Mother Teresa's life and background and is a short, easy read.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2014Mother Teresa is deservedly known as one of the 20th century's greatest humanitarians, and this book described her life from birth to death, with her many accomplishments during her long and fruitful life. She learned as a youth that whatever one had was never so scarce that it could not be divided and shared with another in need. She took vows of poverty and lived among the poorest of the poor, but she enriched our world immeasurably. She used her influence as a peace maker in regions far beyond Calcutta. Her speeches and travels worldwide opened our eyes to the suffering around the world and made us understand what it would take to lift up impoverished and neglected people. She used her presence to intervene in highly polarized situations in order to offer the neutral and universal message of love of neighbor. She refused to judge anyone.
Though I felt that I knew the rough outlines of the story of Mother Teresa already, it was interesting and worthwhile to have more of the details filled in. The book was slightly marred for me, however, by the numerous instances of missing or incorrect words - something that could easily be fixed by the attentions of a skillful editor.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2024A beautiful writing of then Mother Teresa, who has now been canonized into sainthood. The writing contains a wealth of information about this saintly woman which I knew little of, living here in the United States. Highly recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2018Powerful and gripping story of what can be accomplished by trusting and loving our Lord. Mother Teresa was an example of what can be done when ones focus is on God and those who are lost and forgotten by the world.
Well worth the read!

3.0 out of 5 stars not what I expected
I will not criticise something that has obviously been written with great love and admiration for Mother Teresa :)
This book gives you an overview of her life and the main events and crossroads for her, and what influenced her.
