Designed by Wernher von Braun and Arthur Rudolph at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the Saturn V rocket represents the pinnacle of 20th Century technological achievement. The only launch vehicle in history to transport astronauts beyond Low Earth Orbit, the Saturn V delivered 24 men to the moon. To this day it holds records as the tallest (363 feet), heaviest (nearly 7 million lbs.) and most powerful (over 7.6 million pounds-force of thrust) launch vehicle ever produced. It also remains one of the most reliable, achieving 12 successful launches with one partial failure — the unmanned Apollo 6 which suffered vibration damage on lift-off, resulting in a sub-standard orbit. The Saturn series of rockets resulted from Von Braun’s work on the German V-2 and Jupiter series rockets. The Saturn I, a 2-stage liquid-fueled rocket, flew ten times between 1961 and 1965. A uprated version the 1B carried the first crewed Apollo flight into orbit in 1968. The Saturn V, which first flew in 1967, was a three-stage rocket. The first stage, which burned RP-1 and LOX, consisted of five F-1 engines. The second stage used five J-2 engines which burned LOX and liquid hydrogen (LH2). The third stage, based on the second stage of the Saturn 1B, carried a single J-2. The Saturn V could carry up to 262,000 pounds to Low Earth Orbit and more critically, 100,000 pounds to the Moon. Created by NASA as a single-source reference as to the characteristics and functions of the Saturn V, this manual was standard issue to the astronauts of the Apollo and Skylab eras. It contains information about the Saturn V system, range safety and instrumentation, monitoring and control, prelaunch events, and pogo oscillations. It provides a fascinating overview of the rocket that made “one giant leap for mankind” possible.

Highly detailed
This Flight Manual is very detailed and it's format reminds me of an aircraft Pilot Operating Handbook (POH) except far more complex. I really like it.

Yes, I am a space nut. It's a great book that has a level of detail you will have to look hard to match. It covers just about anything you would want to know about the booster. Just be aware that the LM and CSM are only addressed slightly, but there are others manuals for those. It even discusses launch towers, ground support systems and mission control. You can impress your coworkers with details about how the IU sublimator worked. Yes, it is that detailed. My only gripe is that the index in the back ends at the letter L. Almost like a couple of pages got cut off. Not a big problem.

This is the NASA manual, what more can you say! A good pilot/crew reference, so as a historical document it is awesome. As most hardcopy manuals from the 60's and early 70's very densely packed information on each page. Had to dig out reading glasses to see the diagrams clearly. Well worth the price, for such history. Planning a trip to the NASA museum and will have manual in-hand.

Very good reproduction of the original. I don't know what size that was, but at 8x10, this is a good size for an overview manual. Answers lots of questions about the evolution of the Saturn series of rockets. The only chart I was hoping to see but didn't was the one the "FIDO" was looking at in the movie "Apollo 13) when the center J-2 went out on the S-II stage. Since it wasn't in the original, it's not points off.

BTW, this manual includes the relevant to the Saturn (only) CM panel pictures, which are clear and readable size. I wish the same quality was used for the "Apollo Spacecraft Familiarization" manual

If you're a Space following guy or gal you will love this. Actually handed out as the first systems guide to Astronauts and NASA personnel. Of course they ended up reading a stack of manuals that followed, but this covers all systems to give you a real inside view of the greatest machine man has ever built-the mighty Saturn V!

Very good reproduction of the Apollo 8 Saturn V flight manual. Definitely worth eleven dollars! It's dated November 1968 with NASA document number MSFC-MAN-503 and if you just want a PDF NASA has that for free online. If you're looking for the later Apollo missions you'll want MFC-MAN-507 or -508.

As a retired Aerospace Engineer I am really impressed with this reprint of original NASA data. Every detail about flying the Saturn V is covered. Since the Saturn V made the moon landings possible this manual is so appropriate on the 50th Anniversary of the first moon landing.

This is a great book for the lunar space junkie. It is a reprint of the actual book given to the Apollo 8 crew to familiarize them with their launch vehicle. You will get acronym overload, but in a good way! A great read...great info on exactly how that big beast worked!

This book has put me back in the classroom. Especially the technical courses like I did in aviation. There is no beating around the bush, no unnecessary explanation. For those expecting an easy reading, this is not the book for you. This is a detailed manual and you may have to refer to some additional information just to make sense of it...

That's the best one to choose if you want many many mission and technical information at a relatively low cost. As a manual you'll find everything you will need to know or if you want to better understand some aspects of the rocket sure you'll find it. The only thing is that it doesn't really is keen to be understandable to everyone for it has a rigid terminology and obviously a specific insights that may be harder for the ones who are just starting to discover the space marvel's.
