- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2011I actually bought the full sized book, this pocket guide and the journal. I could have skipped the full sized book, and gone with just the pocket guide.
The four day anti bloat diet was hard on day three, but I lost 5 pounds and it was do-able. The 28 day plan is in the pocket guide, and at the end of the 1st week I was down a total of 8 pounds. The best part is, there is nothing difficult about this diet. You can swap the meals around in the same day to accommodate your work schedule. You can substitute breakfasts for breakfasts, lunch for lunch, and so on. I wasn't fond of some of the meals, so I put in one that I liked.
I also found the journal to be useful. It was easy to keep track of what I ate when I ate it. Usually I depend on my memory, and miss things.
The standard book had success stories and recipes that I wasn't really interested in. I wanted a plan that told me what to eat..when...and was easy to do. The Pocket Guide does that.
I did not find it expensive to buy the items on the plan, as there were substitutes which more affordable. Since I already used many of the items, I didn't need to buy olive oil, walnuts or pine nuts, for example. I did not buy organic deli meat, I went with low sodium, roasted products.
So far, so good. I'm on week 2 of the 28 day plan and I'm gradually losing weight and feeling satisfied. It's making me re-evaluate my relationship with food. I can eat healthy, lose weight, and enjoy what I'm eating. Hopefully, when I'm done with the 28 days, I can be wiser about my choices, and keep going. Time will tell.
Anyway, I'd highly recommend this. Too many diets are difficult to do, and this is not. If you're looking for a basic plan with good food, this works.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2010I read many reviews of this book. First I want to say I have tried every diet known to man. I workout at Curves Smart 4-5 days a week. My weight goes up and down. It has been a year of working out until I got fed up and started eating Mediterranean style. I was still eating too much for years. I bought the pocket guide and did the first four days as it is in the book. Then I did the diet for one week. I found that I was losing weight, but there were things I did not like. I sat down and listed all the breakfasts, lunches, snacks and dinners I liked in a spiral notebook. I use it everyday and follow it like a Bible. When I have time, I will create my own combinations. I have lost 8.5 pounds in two weeks and it is still going down. I am losing inches, too. I can see in my body the changes I like. I highly recommend this book. I also bought Eating Clean and their cookbook. I went online to [...] for more recipes. It is not just the book, it is a commitment you must make to changing your eating habits. I decided I like eating good and look forward to the day when all my weight is off. I take it 10 pounds at a time and no more. I reward myself for every 10 I reach. I also try to make one really good meal that follows healthy eating guidelines to prove to myself you can eat good and still lose weight. Don't look at any book and listen to what people say. You have to try everything out there and see what works for you. I thought this was a good start because it really steers you to eating things that are good for you. The right fats help you lose weight. So many recommendations out there are nothing but bad advice. I don't know why dissatified lady stays on my label. I am very satisfied with this book. Three weeks and going strong.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2009I got this pocket guide along with the regular book. I highly recommend it for its ease of use for quick reference for meals and eating out options as well as its portability to the grocery store. The weekly plans are different from the regular book since this pocket guide says it is a budget-maximizing eating plan. It is also a simpler diet to fix than what is in the regular book, but there is less variety. I recommend both books and probably the cookbook, too, if you plan on going full force with this as a new eating style. The diet itself is pretty similar to other diets, but includes the MUFAs (chocolate, oils, nut butters, avocados). I did lose initial weight on the 4-day quickstart and am looking for longer-term results now from the regular diet. It is a filling, enjoyable diet and doesn't starve you like others. I am definitely assuming a healthier, more nutritious menu style with this plan.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2009My review is basically to let those with many allergies know they may not be able to do this plan. The special water you drink each day has cucumbers, ginger, spearmint, lemons. I am allergic to cucumbers, you cannot substitue that item and it has to be consumed each day, 8 glasses. If you are allergic to fish, I am there is tuna, tillapia, Salmon. If you are allergic to avacatos and olives as I am. If you are allergic to walnuts, tomatoes. These are a common cluster of allergies for people with severe asthma, eczema.
This review is not to make excuses just to let you know that if you have said allergies then you will not be able to do the plan to the letter. I have found when too many substitutions are made sometimes the plans do not work as expected.
I am now doing whole food 7-10 veggie and fruit shakes in the Vita Mix, 10 glasses of plain filtered water, One regular meal and a high fiber breakfast. Snacks of nuts and seeds, the wii fit and my stubborn metabolic syndrome is finally giving up the weight. YIPEE.

I really like this Pocket Guide version The Flat Belly Diet. I purchased it after reading Flat Belly Yoga! The two programs go well hand in hand. I can fit the guide in my purse and go shopping. It is chock full of great information to be successful while on the plan. I would recommend this guide and the plan that it entails. 3.0 out of 5 stars Ummmm!
Didn't get much from it. Not simple enough for me. I don't wish to change my life to the degree that I have to change my cupboards.
