- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2013This book collection is great, my Aspergers son who is not crazy normally about chapter books is reading them easily thanks to the adapted texts and the illustrations. So glad he is finally reading real chapter books!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2014Just had to touch base with this classic. Have not read this since it was a set book in English Lit at school in what was Taganyika now Tanzania 60 years ago
- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2014We read this over a month, reading a portion each night to our girls (ages 12 and 10). We were entertained by the story. The dated elements of the writing (including the narrator's rather racist view on things) were springboards to discussions. It was not as gripping to the girls as a modern novel would have been to them, but it was a good one for showing them a book from a different era.
The "illustrated" nature of this book is a joke. There are pictures included between some chapters, but those pictures had absolutely nothing to do with the plot in the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2018Amazing classic that you have to read
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2014I loved it! It was a hearty adventure of mythical proportions with just enough historicity to make you half believe it was true.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2013I have read Rider Haggard a long time ago and he is a writer that you never get tired of
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2022Table of Contents page slid right out as if it were a separate flier tucked into the book. The page was apparently too short to be bound to the rest of the book (the binding wasn't great in the first place, either).
I miss when these were hardcover. Might return and look for an old hardcover copy on ebay or something.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2013Good book for night reading the story is well written, no like the movie at all, the king Solomon's mines.

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging
Slightly pedantic yet enjoyable, this improved as the journey progressed
