- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2015Read the book and it was ok. I've now been married 2 years and my opinion there is no book out there that really gets into the hard core of blended families AND blended families with mental illness issues.
The best advise is find a book that is the closest to your situation, if possible. Get into couple counseling immediately after wedding. This will help you stay sane. Be connected to your church and if possible find a support group for blended families. If you don't have a support group hopefully you have friends that can be your support.
Blended families are not easy. It's extremely hard work. My husband and I have the best relationship and we took all the right steps within our faith. But, we were not ready for what happened in our home. Best advise stay connected and work together. It's harder than you think but in the long run it's worth the fight.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2018This was purchased for a gift. I did review its table of contents and briefly read some sections; it appeared to be on target dealing with
relevant aspects of second marriages based on my personal experience. And issues are addressed from the Christian perspective.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2022I just received this book yesterday and couldn’t put it down. I ended up in a divorce due to his infidelity after 25 years of marriage. Now divorced over five years, I am in a wonderful Christian relationship and it is growing thanks to the Focus on Family Marriage series and their amazing line of books like this one.
The seller sent the book incredibly fast so I could get reading right away and also included a handmade bookmark and another FOF marriage book. Much appreciated!!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2013A great advice book for those contemplating remarriage. The topics covered address key problem areas that will most likely be encounted in any marriage, with special emphasis on single parents with children. A great book that causes you to think before you leap; with thought provoking questions at the end of each chapter to cue you in to potential trouble areas.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2013This book has done exactly as the title says, "prepared me" as I consider remarriage, and has put into words what I want my second marriage to be..."it's one of the most amazing opportunities to experience the beauty of redemption."
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2012Remarriage is a topic that I have thought about a lot. It's one that is important to me, because I would like to be married again, but I also want to be sure that if I ever do remarry, that I don't put myself or my children back into a similar situation to the one I left in my first marriage. This time, I want to do things right.
The Re-Marriage Adventure is a premarital book for couples to go through together before the wedding (and preferably before the engagement), but it will benefit couples even after marriage. This is a book that will help you and your future spouse to really know each other before you make the commitment to spend the rest of your lives serving one another in marriage.
I found this book to be extremely thorough. This book addressed every topic I could think of (and in some cases, which I made a physical list of) that I had already decided I needed to discuss with any potential husband prior to getting too emotionally involved. Remarriage is a choice that I think needs to be made objectively. The important topics raised in this book need to be addressed realistically and without the cloud of infatuation distorting your perception. I know that sounds unromantic, but the intimacy that comes from truly knowing someone and accepting him/her, faults included, will create the right environment for a joyful marriage and plenty of opportunity for romance. Going into a marriage based on infatuation and happy feelings alone is more likely to result in long-term disappointment, if you did not truly come to know the person you are marrying. I already proved that in my first marriage.
This book is divided into 12 chapters. The first 11 chapters each have the story of a real couple (names changed) to demonstrate the principles and lessons taught. The final chapter wraps up the book neatly and with much encouragement. Toward the end of each chapter is a brief section that specifically ties the chapter in its entirety to blending a family with children, followed by questions to consider yourself and to ask your future spouse, and the chapters are closed with a list of relevant scriptures.
The book starts off on the right foot with a chapter about redemption. I think this is an excellent way to start a book about remarriage, because prior to entering a second marriage covenant, the end of the first marriage must be addressed, and closure needs to be reached. This chapter talks about the grief process that must take place after the death of a marriage, as well as forgiveness. Cohabitation is brought up, and the authors urge any couples currently living together to make the decision now to live apart until they are married. Following chapters discuss readiness, trusting again, serving, being "real" with each other, finances, intimacy, extended family and teamwork.
I got a lot out of this book. There are several books that I consider "required reading" for the next man to ask my hand in marriage. This will be one of them.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2012As another reviewer mentioned, this is a thorough book. The Mathis' touch on most of what any married couple encounter and then take it a step farther to tailor it for the needs of those thinking of remarriage. I would recommend this to a couple considering remarriage, but might need help in what issues may arise and need to be discussed.
