Editorial Reviews
Review
The main focus of this book is on reviewing the various neuropsychiatric disorders, which it does quite well. One chapter that is particularly helpful is on neurobiological bases of cognition, emotion, and behavior, which provides an excellent model for understanding the neurobiology of neuropsychiatric symptomatology. This is a high-quality book that provides an essential update of the fifth edition.
From the Back Cover
The Textbook of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, published more than 30 years ago, was the first book to address neuropsychiatric disorders in a comprehensive fashion. At the time of its release, patients often shuttled between psychiatrists and neurologists in search of help for these disorders, which are common, highly disabling, and a source of uncertainty for patients and their families. In this thoroughly revised and restructured sixth edition, the editors offer a modern reconsideration of the core concepts, conditions, and approaches in neuropsychiatry, providing clinicians with the knowledge and tools they need to practice in this demanding field. As with earlier editions, the contributors were selected with care and represent both senior members and rising stars in behavioral neurology and neuropsychiatry. Although the text is rigorous and grounded in the latest research, the content is practical and relevant to both front line practitioners and those in clinical training.
From the initial overview of the principles of structural and functional neuroanatomy and neuropsychiatric assessment, to the neuropsychiatry of neurodevelopmental disorders, acquired neurological conditions, neurodegenerative disorders, and primary psychiatric disorders, the Textbook of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences is meticulously edited, painstakingly researched, and compellingly written.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2018Much more focused on the “neuropsychiatry” side of things than the “neurosciences” side of things, which makes this book more manageable and useful. Arcinegas’ other textbook is still more accessible but this is an excellent update. Neither are quite “reference texts”, more useable texts for training and exams. Moore is more of a “reference text” in that sense though still excellent for didactics. Having these three texts available, all current and focused like a laser on what I consider “neuropsychiatry” as a practicing neuropsychiatrist, is a real pleasure.
