Throughout her life, Mimi Kirk’s talents and interpersonal skills brought her into numerous jobs and careers. She had a stint as a Las Vegas showgirl, and was the stand-in for Mary Tyler Moore in the hit sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She designed clothes and jewelry for Valerie Harper, and invented the popular scarf motif along with the “Rhoda style” for Valerie on the Rhoda television series. Her career in the film industry put her in front of the camera for over seventeen years.

Kirk left the industry to open her own national jewelry manufacturing business. Later, becoming Interested in personal growth, she sold her company and became the regional marketing director for a company that delivered self-improvement seminars. She left to study with her Guru in India. Soon after her return she became executive assistant and charity events coordinator for a private family, and sat on the board of several nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles. In 1989, Kirk was the founder, editor, and publisher of an environmental newspaper, The City Planet, in Los Angeles.

Adding to her list of many careers, in 1998 Mimi owned and operated Side Saddle, L.L.C. for ten-years where she manufactured cowgirl themed products sold around the world. She is the inventor of four board games including Cowgirls Ride The Trail of Truth, a board game for women 18-118 and authored Cowgirl Spirit. Although she sold her company in 2008, her games and products are still sold worldwide.

In August 2009 Mimi won the title of “sexiest vegetarian over 50” in a nation wide contest conducted by PETA. She was the oldest contestant at 70 and won over hundreds of other contestants. She has been interviewed on NBC, KUSI, Fox and appeared on The Doctors, a national TV show. Many newspaper and magazine articles have been written about her as well as many online blogs. She recently authored Eat Raw, Stay Hot with a release date of May 2011. Mimi is passionate about helping others to look and feel their best by eating a plant based raw food vegan diet.

    Juice that cleanses, cures and keeps you happy! This book is everything you need to kick start something great for you're health. It's perfect resource for the novice or experience alike.

    There is a wealth of information about the benefits of plant based foods. I especially appreciate the section on "health benefits of vegetables and fruit by name." I've learned things in never knew before about the specific benefits of say, cabbage (cholesterol lowering), cranberries (great for promoting oral health), daikon (for great digestion) and pineapple (contains bromelain - anti-inflammatory and digestive enzyme).

    The recipes, each provide a nice intro with specific health benefits. An enormous section of juices and smoothies to appeal to anyone, including special sections for kids. A great section telling you how to make your own healthy nuts milks and again the health benefits of different ingredients.

    So far I've made:

    Almond milk- good standby
    Cashew milk- which I learned is helps our bodies produce serotonin (welcome sound sleep). Delicious!
    Hemp seed delight shake- super packed with nutrition and delicious ( this kept me going all morning)
    Good morning water- delicious infused water I've been making regularly!

    These more info for doing cleanses, treating specific health conditions, making your own probiotic drinks like kombucha and recipes using pulp from your juices to make breads, crackers, even doggie treats. I got the kindle version but will consider purchasing the book as well. It's a great companion and resource for your health!

    I’m new to juicing and this book was just what I needed for nutritional and health information with some great juicing recipes. The beautiful photos are well done and inspirational to my juicing regimen. This book will be well used. I’m very happy with this purchase.

    I love to juice. I have been juicing off and on since the early eighties and own quite a collection of juicing books. Since our old juicer gave up the ghost we bought a new juicer and we also bought a new juicing book just to see if there is anything new under the sun. One tends to use the same recipes over and over and I was in need of a little inspiration. My family and I have now tried a majority of the recipes in this beautiful book. Not only are the pictures stunning and ever so inspiring, the recipes are absolutely delicious and well balanced. There are no crazy ingredients and complicated formulas yet there is a sophistication to the recipes that makes this book truly outstanding. Modern Juicing has become my favorite juicing book. Highly recommended!

    The first 75 pages are strictly about health benefits of juicing, certain foods and how to pick a juicer. This information was not new and wasted space. The juice recopies in this book, are very basic and obvious, very few ingredients. Several of the recipes are very similar. You do NOT need this book to make these very basic blends. I was expecting some creative juice recipes with interesting unexpected ingredients that increase the health benefits.
    There are some pretty smoothie and juice blend photos spread throughout the book which are pleasing to look at. However, not as many as I expected.

    I just bought my second juicer and, although I am not new to juicing, I decided to get a new book with more recipes to enjoy.

    I love, love LOVE this book. This is probably the 5th or 6th juicing book I've had but by far it is the best.

    So far almost every recipe I've tried has been wonderful. My favourite so far is Jonas's Juice - apple, pear, mint, lemon, romaine, cucumber, etc... Delish!

    There is a section that identifies which juices are best for which ailment. I definitely had immediate improvement to digestive upset after making and consuming a juice that had fennel, ginger and I can't remember what else. There also is a glossary where you can look up the medicinal benefits of specific fruits and veggies. And there is a section on juices that are great to use to introduce kids to juicing. And a whole section on nut milks and smoothies. I have yet to try those but will soon, have ordered a coco-jack to make it easier to open up young coconuts (which I love) and there are numerous smoothie recipes that include young coconuts, as well as recipes to make your own coconut milk from them.

    I can not recommend this book highly enough. Utterly fantastic!

    Ich liebe dieses Buch! Es ist meiner Meinung nach eines der besten Bücher zum Thema selbstgemachte Smoothies und Säfte.
    Hätte ich von diesem Buch vorher schon gewusst, hätte ich mir die anderen Bücher sparen können :-( ernsthaft. Mimi Kirk deckt so ziemlich fast alles ab was man entsaften oder in einen Smoothie verwandeln kann - incl. Hintergrundinfo zur Wirkung usw.

    Das Buch enthält eine Vielzahl an Rezepten und auch Tips, wie man auf diese Art und Weise seinen Kindern unbeliebtes aber gesundes Gemüse unterjubeln kann ohne, dass diese es geschmacklich merken.
    Bin zwar kein Kind, aber ich hasse Brokkoli! In einem Green Smoothie zusammen mit ein paar anderen schmackhaften gesunden Früchten schmecke ich ihn gar nicht mehr raus. So komme ich in den Genuss der gesundheitlichen Vorzüge des Brokkoli, ohne unter den verhassten Geschmack leiden zu müssen. Und das auch noch als Rohkost wo alle Vitamine erhalten bleiben!

    Mich hat vor allem die Erläuterung interessiert, welcher Saft oder Smoothie Rezept für welche gesundheitlichen Aspekte gut ist.
    Da gibt es was für die Haut, für das Entgiften/Detoxing, Krebsvorbeugung/-Bekämpfung, für Cholesterin Probleme, Nerven, Augen, Blutdruck und vieles mehr.

    Die aller meisten Zutaten kann man so gut wie alle im REWE, EDEKA und auf dem Samstags-Bauern/Gemüsemarkt bekommen. Die exotischeren Zutaten z.B. wie Kokosnusswasser bekommt man teilweise auch in größeren Supermärkten oder in den größeren Drogerieketten welche ihre eigenen Bio-Marken haben. Wer einen Garten hat wo man sein eigenes Gemüse und seine eigenen Kräuter anbauen kann, ist auch hier im Vorteil. Und alles andere was man so nirgendwo kriegen kann - Online Bio-Läden oder Amazon ;-)

    Hinweis für Einsteiger/Neulinge:
    Wenn man viel in dieser Richtung machen möchte, kommt man früher oder später nicht drum herum sich die entsprechenden Geräte anschaffen zu müssen um schmackhafte Smoothies und Säfte herzustellen. Leider sind die guten Geräte die wirklich was taugen und auch lange halten sollen auch nicht ganz billig. Man bewegt sich hier im Bereich von 300 - 700 Euro. Daher sollte man sich wirklich viel Zeit lassen und gut recherchieren, welchen Mixer und Juicer man haben will.

    Ist der Mixer nicht stark genug, hat man eher einen Bröckeli als einen Smoothie ;-) Das kann man mal eine Weile so machen um zu schauen ob's einem generell taugt. Aber irgendwann mal... mir hat es nach ca. 5 Monaten gereicht und ich wollte ein richtigen Mixer mit Power haben.

    Bei einem Juicer/Entsafter sollte man vor allem darauf achten, dass dieser auch dazu geeignet ist Blättriges Zeugs wie Kräuter, Salate, Gemüse wie Spinat/Mangold/Kohl usw. zu entsaften.
    Das können nämlich nicht alle Juicer wie ich feststellen musste, auch nicht die teuren Luxusmodelle... Bin hier selber noch auf der Suche, weil mein alter Entsafter für 70 Euro langsam schlapp macht... Gemüse wie Ingwer und Möhren setzt ihm schon langsam zu.
